How to track webinar attendance to purchase for Snapchat Ads
The registration is cheap, the attendance is the filter, and the purchase arrives days after the room emptied. Almost every webinar funnel reports the registration, which is the one stage that costs the prospect nothing and predicts the least. On Snapchat Ads the specifics that matter are the click identifier (the ScCid click identifier), the import mechanism (the Snapchat Conversions API), and Snapchat deduplicates on a client-supplied event identifier shared between the pixel and the Conversions API. The chain only works end to end if the identifier is captured on landing and stored on the order or opportunity that followed the webinar — no cookie survives the gap between ad click and purchase.

Where this funnel usually breaks
Registrations optimized as the conversion
They are cheap and easy, so the platform will find you a great many people who register and never appear. The cost per registration falls and the revenue does not move.
Replay buyers attributed to email
The purchase link comes from a follow-up email, so without a persisted identifier the entire replay cohort shows up as email traffic and the paid campaign that filled the seat gets nothing.
Attendance minutes ignored
Someone who watched four minutes and someone who watched the full pitch are the same attendance record and are not remotely the same prospect.
Specific to Snapchat × Webinar → purchase
Snapchat webinar ads: usually the wrong room for a long pitch
If you run Snapchat for a webinar, send the post-webinar order as a PURCHASE event through the Snapchat Conversions API from your billing or CRM system, with the click ID persisted server-side at registration plus hashed email and phone. Send registration as SIGN_UP for reporting. For most webinars, audience fit is the bigger question than tracking.
A webinar asks for an hour of attention at a set time, and Snapchat's audience is young, mobile and moving between messages. That combination rarely produces attendees. It can work for offers aimed at that age group, such as trade-school or bootcamp information sessions or creator courses, but for most webinar funnels, especially B2B or high-ticket coaching for older buyers, the right move is to leave Snapchat out of the plan.
If you do run it, the identifier is fragile. Registration starts in Snapchat's in-app browser, and a click ID held only in a cookie there is often gone by the time the webinar host's form submits. Read it on the landing request, pass it into the registration as a custom field, and save the registrant's phone number as well as email, which gives the match a second key that survives a move to another browser.
Keep the setup small: SIGN_UP for registration and PURCHASE with value for the order, both sent server-side. Do not optimize on SIGN_UP alone; cheap registrations from people who will not attend are what this funnel already produces too many of. Confirm the attribution window in your account against the real gap between click and purchase before judging the result.
Architecture
The exact event sequence
Five stages. Two breaks, not one: the identifier is lost at registration because the form is hosted elsewhere, and then lost again between the webinar and the purchase because days pass and the device changes. The identifier has to survive all of them.
Step 1
Ad click
The identifier arrives on the registration page. Capture it here — the webinar platform will not.
Step 2
Registration
On a webinar platform's hosted form in most cases, which means the identifier has to be pushed in as a field rather than read from the page.
Step 3
Attendance
Registration-to-attendance runs between a third and a half for cold traffic. It is the single largest drop in this funnel.
Step 4
Replay watched
A real stage. Replay buyers are a meaningful share of revenue and are invisible if you only count live attendance.
Step 5
Purchase
Days later, from an email, on a different device. This is the event worth optimizing toward and the hardest one to connect.
Diagnostic sequence
What's specific to Snapchat Ads
The funnel logic above is the same wherever you advertise. These are the parts that change because it's Snapchat Ads.
- 1
Click identifier: the ScCid click identifier
Snapchat appends its click identifier to your landing page URL, and matches additionally on hashed email, phone and mobile advertising IDs. The environment is what makes this hard: traffic arrives inside Snapchat's in-app browser, whose storage behavior is inconsistent, so an identifier captured into a cookie rather than persisted server-side frequently is not there when the conversion happens.
- 2
Import mechanism: the Conversions API
Server events posted to Snapchat's Conversions API carrying the click identifier and hashed customer information. Verify the current endpoint and required field names against Snapchat's own documentation before building rather than trusting an older integration guide.
- 3
Deduplication
Same shape as Meta: the browser pixel and the server event must carry the same identifier for the same conversion. Given how much Snapchat traffic never runs the pixel successfully, some advertisers here send server-side only — which is a defensible choice on this audience and removes the deduplication problem entirely. Decide deliberately rather than running both and hoping.
- 4
Window and timing
Snapchat's attribution windows are configurable and its defaults differ from Meta's. Confirm what your account is set to before reconciling anything, and verify the accepted event-freshness limit for server events against current documentation.
- 5
The Snapchat gotcha
Snapchat skews young and almost entirely mobile. If your buyer is not in that profile, no measurement work makes the channel viable — and that is a media planning conversation rather than a tracking one, worth having before anyone builds.
Source-of-truth validation
How to prove the chain works
One real journey, followed all the way, then a reconciliation. Neither on its own is enough.
- A live Snapchat ad clicked, and the identifier confirmed present on the landing URL.
- The same identifier confirmed on the order or opportunity that followed the webinar after a full real journey through every step.
- Purchase confirmed arriving at Snapchat Ads, verified by the events received and matched in Snapchat Ads Manager, reconciled against your own records.
- Your billing or crm record, joined to the webinar attendance log reconciled against Snapchat Ads per record over a fully closed window.
- The same reconciliation repeated 30 days later.
Straight talk
When this doesn't apply to you
Worth checking before you build anything, because two of these are common and both mean the work isn't worth doing.
- If your webinar is a support or onboarding session for existing customers, there is no acquisition funnel here and nothing to attribute.
- If your customers are not in Snapchat's age profile, the channel is the wrong question. We would rather say that than build measurement for a campaign that cannot work.
- If your cycle from click to purchase regularly exceeds the import window, the final event can't drive bidding whatever you build. Optimize toward attendance of at least a defined watch duration instead and use the later data for budget decisions rather than for bidding.
- If almost none of your post-webinar orders carry a click identifier today, that's the whole project. Fix capture first — the import is the easy half and no tooling rescues a record with nothing to reference.
What working looks like
Purchase attributed to the click
Server-sideWeeks later if necessary, because the identifier lives on the order or opportunity that followed the webinar rather than in a cookie.
Snapchat bidding fed the real outcome
8+ EMQVia the Conversions API, so it optimizes toward purchases that followed the webinar rather than toward registrations.
A reconciliation that closes
DedupedYour billing or crm record, joined to the webinar attendance log matched per record against what Snapchat Ads reports, over a fully closed window.
The implementation, on Snapchat Ads
Capture the ScCid click identifier on landing
Read the click identifier from the landing URL and persist it server-side on first sight. On this traffic specifically, assuming the in-app browser will still hold it at conversion time is the mistake.
Persist it to the order or opportunity that followed the webinar
Push the identifier into the registration record as a custom field, then carry it onto the contact so a purchase a week later still resolves without depending on a cookie.
Send purchase from the record
Your billing or CRM system, on the purchase, with the webinar attendance joined on the registrant's email so the campaign that filled the seat gets the credit. Dispatched to Snapchat Ads through the Snapchat Conversions API.
Deduplicate and reverse
Snapchat deduplicates on a client-supplied event identifier shared between the pixel and the conversions api. Refunds reverse. Webinar-driven purchases are frequently impulse decisions and refund at above-average rates, which is worth measuring rather than assuming.

The honestanswers.
No buzzwords, no upsell. If we don’t know, we say so.
01Is Snapchat good for webinar registrations?
Rarely. The audience is young and mobile-first, which suits short consumer offers more than a long live session; information sessions aimed at that age group are the main exception.
02What Snapchat events should a webinar funnel send?
SIGN_UP for the registration and PURCHASE with value for the order that follows, both through the Conversions API. Leave SIGN_UP out of the bidding goal.
03Why isn't registration enough to optimize on?
Because registration-to-purchase varies by a factor of several across channels, and bidding pointed at registrations reliably finds the channel with the worst rate — it produces the cheapest registrations.
04How does the identifier survive to purchase?
It doesn't, as a cookie — the gap is too long. It has to be written onto the order or opportunity that followed the webinar at the point of ad click, where it lives as a field rather than as browser storage.
05What does Snapchat Ads need to accept the conversion?
An event name Snapchat recognizes, a shared event identifier if you are also running the pixel, a timestamp, hashed customer information, and the click identifier where you have it.
06How long does this take to build?
Two to four days for the implementation, plus a closed reconciliation window before we'd call it verified. Capture and persistence are the fiddly parts; the import itself is usually an afternoon.
07Can I do this myself?
Yes, and the reference pages on this site cover the mechanics. The part that's genuinely tedious rather than clever is keeping the ScCid click identifier alive through multi-step forms and the multi-day gap between the webinar and the purchase, which fails silently at every stage.
