How to track webinar attendance to purchase for Reddit Ads
The registration is cheap, the attendance is the filter, and the purchase arrives days after the room emptied. Almost every webinar funnel reports the registration, which is the one stage that costs the prospect nothing and predicts the least. On Reddit Ads the specifics that matter are the click identifier (the rdt_cid click identifier), the import mechanism (the Reddit Conversions API), and Reddit deduplicates on the conversion ID carried on both the pixel event and the server event. The chain only works end to end if the identifier is captured on landing and stored on the order or opportunity that followed the webinar — no cookie survives the gap between ad click and purchase.

Where this funnel usually breaks
Registrations optimized as the conversion
They are cheap and easy, so the platform will find you a great many people who register and never appear. The cost per registration falls and the revenue does not move.
Replay buyers attributed to email
The purchase link comes from a follow-up email, so without a persisted identifier the entire replay cohort shows up as email traffic and the paid campaign that filled the seat gets nothing.
Attendance minutes ignored
Someone who watched four minutes and someone who watched the full pitch are the same attendance record and are not remotely the same prospect.

Reddit webinar ads: a skeptical room and a blocked pixel
Send the post-webinar order to Reddit through its Conversions API as a Purchase event, from your billing or CRM system, with the rdt_cid read from the registration page URL and stored on the registrant, plus hashed email. Do not rely on the Reddit Pixel firing on the registration page; many Reddit visitors block it.
Reddit can fill a webinar when the session is useful to one subreddit's audience, such as a technical walkthrough for developers or a deep dive for a hobby community. It reacts badly to anything that reads as a sales funnel, and a webinar that ends in a hard pitch tends to draw comments under the ad saying exactly that. Make the content the offer, or expect expensive registrations and thin attendance.
Capture is the weak point. A large share of Reddit visitors block the pixel, so the registration page may never record the visit, but the rdt_cid in the landing URL is still available to a server-side read. Read it from the request, write it into the registration as a custom field, and carry it to the contact. Without that, a replay buyer a week later has nothing linking them to Reddit.
Reddit buyers often return through branded search before purchasing, so Google will claim many of them. Send Purchase with value for the order, and if purchase volume is too low to optimize on, send attendance past a watch threshold as Lead rather than using registrations. Then compare Reddit-cohort revenue in your CRM, joined through the stored rdt_cid, against what Reddit reports.
Architecture
The exact event sequence
Five stages. Two breaks, not one: the identifier is lost at registration because the form is hosted elsewhere, and then lost again between the webinar and the purchase because days pass and the device changes. The identifier has to survive all of them.
Step 1
Ad click
The identifier arrives on the registration page. Capture it here — the webinar platform will not.
Step 2
Registration
On a webinar platform's hosted form in most cases, which means the identifier has to be pushed in as a field rather than read from the page.
Step 3
Attendance
Registration-to-attendance runs between a third and a half for cold traffic. It is the single largest drop in this funnel.
Step 4
Replay watched
A real stage. Replay buyers are a meaningful share of revenue and are invisible if you only count live attendance.
Step 5
Purchase
Days later, from an email, on a different device. This is the event worth optimizing toward and the hardest one to connect.
Diagnostic sequence
What's specific to Reddit Ads
The funnel logic above is the same wherever you advertise. These are the parts that change because it's Reddit Ads.
- 1
Click identifier: the rdt_cid click identifier
Reddit appends rdt_cid to your landing page URL, and the Reddit Pixel keeps its own identifier in the _rdt_uuid cookie. Reddit's audience is unusually privacy-aware — ad-blocker and tracker-blocker usage on Reddit traffic runs well above the web average — so the share of visits where the pixel never loads at all is higher here than on any other network in this list. The URL parameter is the identifier that survives; the cookie often does not.
- 2
Import mechanism: the Conversions API
Server events posted to Reddit's Conversions API with the click identifier and hashed customer information. Reddit's implementation is younger than Meta's and its documentation moves — confirm the current endpoint, event names and required fields against Reddit's own developer docs rather than an integration blog post.
- 3
Deduplication
The pixel and the Conversions API event must carry the same conversion identifier for the same action. Because so much Reddit traffic never runs the pixel at all, a lot of accounts skip the pixel entirely and send server-side only — which is a legitimate choice here in a way it rarely is elsewhere, and it removes the deduplication problem completely. Decide deliberately rather than running both and hoping.
- 4
Window and timing
Reddit's default attribution windows are shorter than Meta's and are configurable. Check what your account is set to before reconciling anything, and verify the accepted event-freshness limit for server events against Reddit's current documentation.
- 5
The Reddit gotcha
Reddit converts on a delay and on trust. People read a thread, leave, think about it, and come back through a branded search a week later — which is a genuine Reddit-driven conversion that Reddit will never be credited for and Google will happily claim. If Reddit is judged purely on last-click inside its own window, it will always look worse than it is. Build the measurement, then argue about attribution with that context on the table.
Source-of-truth validation
How to prove the chain works
One real journey, followed all the way, then a reconciliation. Neither on its own is enough.
- A live Reddit ad clicked, and the identifier confirmed present on the landing URL.
- The same identifier confirmed on the order or opportunity that followed the webinar after a full real journey through every step.
- Purchase confirmed arriving at Reddit Ads, verified by the events received and matched in Reddit Ads Manager, reconciled against your own records.
- Your billing or crm record, joined to the webinar attendance log reconciled against Reddit Ads per record over a fully closed window.
- The same reconciliation repeated 30 days later.
Straight talk
When this doesn't apply to you
Worth checking before you build anything, because two of these are common and both mean the work isn't worth doing.
- If your webinar is a support or onboarding session for existing customers, there is no acquisition funnel here and nothing to attribute.
- If you are not running Reddit at meaningful spend, skip it. And if your Reddit strategy is organic community presence rather than ads, none of this applies — that traffic has no click identifier by definition.
- If your cycle from click to purchase regularly exceeds the import window, the final event can't drive bidding whatever you build. Optimize toward attendance of at least a defined watch duration instead and use the later data for budget decisions rather than for bidding.
- If almost none of your post-webinar orders carry a click identifier today, that's the whole project. Fix capture first — the import is the easy half and no tooling rescues a record with nothing to reference.
What working looks like
Purchase attributed to the click
Server-sideWeeks later if necessary, because the identifier lives on the order or opportunity that followed the webinar rather than in a cookie.
Reddit bidding fed the real outcome
8+ EMQVia the Conversions API, so it optimizes toward purchases that followed the webinar rather than toward registrations.
A reconciliation that closes
DedupedYour billing or crm record, joined to the webinar attendance log matched per record against what Reddit Ads reports, over a fully closed window.
The implementation, on Reddit Ads
Capture the rdt_cid click identifier on landing
Read rdt_cid from the landing URL and persist it server-side on first sight. Do not build on the pixel's cookie — on this audience specifically, assuming the pixel ran is the mistake.
Persist it to the order or opportunity that followed the webinar
Push the identifier into the registration record as a custom field, then carry it onto the contact so a purchase a week later still resolves without depending on a cookie.
Send purchase from the record
Your billing or CRM system, on the purchase, with the webinar attendance joined on the registrant's email so the campaign that filled the seat gets the credit. Dispatched to Reddit Ads through the Reddit Conversions API.
Deduplicate and reverse
Reddit deduplicates on the conversion id carried on both the pixel event and the server event. Refunds reverse. Webinar-driven purchases are frequently impulse decisions and refund at above-average rates, which is worth measuring rather than assuming.

The honestanswers.
No buzzwords, no upsell. If we don’t know, we say so.
01Why does the Reddit pixel undercount webinar registrations?
Because a larger share of Reddit users run ad and tracker blockers than on most networks. Reading rdt_cid from the landing URL and sending registrations server-side closes most of that gap.
02Do Reddit users sign up for webinars?
They do for content that is clearly useful to a specific subreddit. Webinars that are thinly disguised sales pitches tend to struggle there.
03Why isn't registration enough to optimize on?
Because registration-to-purchase varies by a factor of several across channels, and bidding pointed at registrations reliably finds the channel with the worst rate — it produces the cheapest registrations.
04How does the identifier survive to purchase?
It doesn't, as a cookie — the gap is too long. It has to be written onto the order or opportunity that followed the webinar at the point of ad click, where it lives as a field rather than as browser storage.
05What does Reddit Ads need to accept the conversion?
An event name Reddit recognizes, a conversion identifier matched to the pixel if you are also running one, a timestamp, hashed customer information, and the click identifier where you have it.
06How long does this take to build?
Two to four days for the implementation, plus a closed reconciliation window before we'd call it verified. Capture and persistence are the fiddly parts; the import itself is usually an afternoon.
07Can I do this myself?
Yes, and the reference pages on this site cover the mechanics. The part that's genuinely tedious rather than clever is keeping the rdt_cid click identifier alive through multi-step forms and the multi-day gap between the webinar and the purchase, which fails silently at every stage.
