Your Facebook recommendations close the sale. Your ads never get the credit.
A shopper clicks your Google ad, reads a wall of "recommends" on your Facebook Page, then calls you from the Page. Google Ads records a click and nothing more, and GA4 files the visit under organic social. We tag every way out of your Page, give Page calls their own trackable number, tie Page-started calls and messages back to an earlier ad visit wherever the buyer's details match one, and keep the people who recommend you out of your new-customer counts.

Facebook recommendations · what breaks
What goes wrong when buyers check your Facebook recommendations
- 01
"They read my recommendations, then buy, and the ad gets nothing"
The shopper detours from your site to your Page, reads what neighbors said, then phones from the Page or shows up at the lot. Google Ads never hears about the sale, so Smart Bidding starves the campaigns sending your best trailer and shed buyers.
- 02
"GA4 says organic social is my best channel"
Clicks from your Page's website link and Meta ad clicks without UTM tags both arrive from facebook.com, and Google's channel rules file both as Organic Social. You can't separate what the Page earns from what you paid for.
- 03
"Marketplace buyers and ad buyers look the same in my inbox"
A Marketplace shopper and a Meta ad clicker both read your recommendations before they message you about the same trailer. With no record of where each thread started, ads take credit for sales they didn't make, or lose credit for ones they did.
- 04
"My regulars get counted as new customers"
Bakery regulars and repeat party-rental clients reorder through your Page. When their order fires the same event as a stranger's, Meta keeps hunting people who already know you and your cost per new customer looks better than it is.
Facebook recommendations · the fix
What changes — Facebook recommendations
Credit follows the buyer through your Page
The click ID is saved when the ad visitor first lands on your site. Page-started calls and messages get joined to it when the buyer's phone or email matches that visit, the rest get a one-question source check, and the paid sale goes to Google Ads and Meta's Conversions API.
Page traffic and paid traffic split in GA4
Your Page's links carry their own UTM tags and every Meta ad carries a paid medium, so organic social finally means organic.
Recommendations measured as retention, not leads
Each new recommendation is logged with the reviewer's name and matched to a customer record, so you can see who recommends you without inflating acquisition numbers.
Facebook recommendations · architecture
What Meta actually lets you hook into on a Facebook Page
From Meta's developer and business help documentation. Anything that depends on your Page's setup is listed as a check.
- 1
Page ratings endpoint
Returns each recommendation as positive or negative, with text, reviewer and date. Read-only; needs a Page access token and pages_read_user_content.
- 2
Ratings webhook
Reports new recommendations, and comments on them, with type, text and reviewer ID. A Page admin must grant the app pages_manage_metadata.
- 3
No owner tags on the Page itself
We found nothing in Meta's docs that lets you run your own Pixel or Google tag on a Facebook Page. Measurement starts when someone leaves it for your site, your phone or your inbox.
- 4
Meta's separate business ratings
Meta may ask people who bought after interacting with your ads to rate the purchase, and shows that rating inside ads once it has enough reviews. It lives under Ratings and reviews in Business Suite, may not be available to you yet, and Meta doesn't describe it as your Page recommendations.
- 5
Where paid customers go
Meta's Conversions API accepts website, business messaging and offline events. Google Ads offline import needs auto-tagging and the stored GCLID; enhanced conversions for leads adds hashed contact details from the lead.
Facebook recommendations · diagnose
Where tracking breaks around Facebook recommendations, in diagnostic order
Start at the Page's own links, because one untagged URL mislabels every visit that passes through it.
- 01
Click your Page's website link and action button
Watch the source and medium land in GA4's realtime report.
- 02
Check the UTM tags on every live Meta ad
Any ad without a paid medium falls into Organic Social next to your Page.
- 03
Trace one Page-started call and one message
See whether either can be tied back to an earlier ad visit, by number, phone or email.
- 04
Look for the click ID in your CRM or sales records
No stored GCLID means no offline upload for that buyer.
- 05
Search conversion uploads for repeat buyers and reviewers
Regulars and recommenders in there inflate new-customer numbers.

Run on your live Facebook Page and live ads, on desktop and in the Facebook app, never in a preview.
Source of truth
Your sales, booking or enrollment records, matched to the list of recommendations on your Facebook Page
- A click on your Page's website link arriving in GA4 with its own tag, apart from paid social.
- A Meta ad click landing as paid social, not organic.
- An ad visit followed by a call to your Page's tracking number, with the caller matched to that visit's click ID or marked unmatched.
- A test recommendation received by the webhook and matched to a customer, with no conversion fired.
- One paid sale counted once in Google Ads and once in Events Manager.
- A repeat customer confirmed absent from acquisition uploads.
- The month reconciled sale by sale, then rerun 30 days later and after any change to your Page's buttons or links.

Facebook recommendations · when not to buy
When you don't need this for Facebook recommendations
Recommendations are free word of mouth. Often they need replies, not a tracking project.
- If you don't run Google or Meta ads, there's no ad spend for your recommendations to confuse; just keep answering them.
- If your trailers or sheds sell almost entirely off Marketplace listings with no paid ads behind them, attribution won't change a decision.
- If ads send people straight to a checkout or booking page on your site and buyers rarely detour to your Page, fix that checkout's tracking first.
- If the only fault is an untagged website link on your Page, adding UTM tags takes five minutes and we'll tell you to do it yourself.

FAQ
Facebook recommendations questions, answered
Not in any way Meta documents. We found no supported method for running your own tags on a Facebook Page, so tracking starts at the exits: your website link, action button, phone number and messages.
Not as far as Meta documents. Meta describes a separate business rating it collects from people who bought after interacting with your ads and shows inside ads. It doesn't describe that rating as your Page recommendations, and we check which one your ads display.
Google's channel rules file a visit from a social site as Organic Social unless the medium is tagged as paid, like cpc or paid_social. Untagged Meta ads and clicks from your Page land in the same bucket until both are tagged.
Yes. Meta's Page ratings endpoint and ratings webhook return the reviewer, the text and whether it's positive or negative. We match them to your customer list and keep them out of ad conversions.
We record where each conversation started at intake, using what your inbox shows plus a one-question source check. Only ad-sourced buyers get uploaded to the ad platforms.
No. Your requests, replies and Page settings stay as they are. We only change which links are tagged and where your paying-customer data goes.
