WebMD Care conversion tracking: your ad found the patient, so why does WebMD get the credit?
Someone looking for an orthopedic surgeon or OB-GYN clicks your Google ad, checks your ratings on WebMD, and taps the appointment request on your Featured Profile. WebMD emails the request to your inbox and tracks it in its own reporting, while Google Ads logs a click that went nowhere. We separate WebMD and Vitals calls and requests from your ad leads, count new patients from your own records, and send Google and Meta only the visits their clicks produced.

WebMD Care · what breaks
What goes wrong when WebMD Care sits next to your ads
- 01
"They clicked my ad, then called the number on WebMD"
Patients who research before they phone dial from your WebMD or Vitals profile. WebMD's call report claims them, Google Ads records a bounce, and Smart Bidding pulls money from the campaign that started the search.
- 02
"Appointment requests show up in email, and my ads never hear about them"
WebMD's online booking sends each request to your inbox. If the embedded widget sits on your ad landing page, your Google tag may never see the request, so the campaign looks like it produced nothing and Smart Bidding cuts the spend that was working.
- 03
"WebMD's report and Google Ads both claim the same new patient"
WebMD Care tracks calls and requests from your profiles, and your account manager reports on them monthly; Google Ads counts calls from your site. One patient can sit in both, so you can't tell whether the Featured Profile or the ad budget earned them, or which one to cut.
- 04
"A request for Tuesday at 9 isn't a booked patient"
A WebMD request is a preferred date and time, not a confirmed slot. Some come from existing patients, and some requesters never show. Count requests as conversions and bidding learns from people who never came in, so you pay for more of them.
WebMD Care · the fix
What changes after the fix — WebMD Care
WebMD and Vitals reported as their own source
Profile calls and booking requests get their own line in GA4 and your reporting, never sent to Google Ads as ad conversions.
Bidding trained on kept new-patient visits
New patients seen after an ad click are matched back to the click from your practice records and imported into Google Ads and Meta.
A clear renewal decision on the Featured Profile
New patients per month from WebMD and Vitals beside each ad platform, counted from the same records instead of two vendors' reports.
WebMD Care · architecture
What WebMD Care actually lets you hook into
WebMD Care Directories covers your profiles on both WebMD and Vitals. Its help center describes profile tiers, online booking and call reporting, but no tag slot, API or ad platform connection.
- 1
Three profile levels
A claimed Basic profile is free and shows your contact details, specialties, credentials and accepted insurance. Featured Profiles are WebMD's paid upgrade and add a visit-website link, a click-to-call button, an optional telemedicine button and online booking.
- 2
Online booking sends requests to your inbox
Patients request dates and times from your WebMD and Vitals profiles or from the widget you embed on your website, Google Business Profile or Facebook. WebMD says requests go straight to your inbox and are tracked from its request forms.
- 3
Call tracking inside WebMD Care
WebMD Care says it shows which callers came from your WebMD or Vitals profiles, with recordings and an AI call summary. We confirm which number each profile displays.
- 4
The Visit Website link
Featured Profiles include it. Ask whether your account manager can put a UTM-tagged URL on it so WebMD visits get labeled in GA4.
- 5
No documented feed to ad platforms
We found no webhook, export, Google Ads or Meta connection for providers, so ad conversions come from your site, phones and practice records.
WebMD Care · diagnose
Where WebMD Care tracking breaks, in the order we check
Start with the profiles, because the number and link patients see there decide most of what follows.
- 01
Read every provider's WebMD and Vitals profile
Note the phone number, the website link and whether the booking button is live.
- 02
Find the embedded booking widget
On your site, Google Business Profile and Facebook. Send a test request from an ad-tagged URL and see what GA4 and Google Ads record.
- 03
Compare WebMD's call count with Google Ads call conversions
Same month, caller by caller where the numbers allow it.
- 04
Follow 20 booking requests to their outcome
Confirmed, rescheduled, existing patient or no-show, from your practice management system.
- 05
Check what your tags send from health pages
Conditions and appointment reasons should never reach Google or Meta.

Source of truth
WebMD Care's own records: appointment request emails and profile call reports, reconciled with new patients seen in your practice management system
- A test request from the WebMD profile reported as a directory lead, not an ad conversion.
- A test request through the widget on your site, labeled by its true source or flagged where WebMD's email can't tell us.
- A call after an ad-tagged visit recorded by the Google forwarding number; a profile call left in WebMD's report.
- Each new patient seen after an ad click appears once in Google Ads and once in Meta.
- Existing patients and reschedules absent from every ad conversion.
- Sources matched patient by patient across a closed month, then again 30 days later.

WebMD Care · when not to buy
When you don't need this for WebMD Care
Plenty of practices listed on WebMD only need a profile check.
- If you have a free Basic profile and don't run ads, keep the phone number and insurance list correct and leave tracking alone.
- If you run no Google or Meta ads, WebMD's call recordings and request emails already show what the profile brings in.
- If you run an urgent care where most patients walk in, or most new patients arrive by physician or insurer referral, measure those first.
- If the only problem is an old number on a profile, WebMD's help center takes corrections by NPI, and you can file that yourself.
WebMD Care · what we deliver
The event map around WebMD Care
Ad-click visit to your website
The Google click ID and Meta click data stored first-party on arrival, before any WebMD widget loads.
Call: your site versus your WebMD profile
Site calls go through a Google forwarding number; WebMD and Vitals profile calls stay on WebMD's line as directory calls.
WebMD booking request received
Logged as a lead and tagged by source where we can tell it: the profile, or the widget on your site. We confirm whether WebMD's request emails show which widget placement sent them.
Request confirmed by the front desk
The qualified step, recorded when staff turn a requested time into a real appointment.
New patient seen
The conversion Google Ads and Meta receive, only when a click is on record, sent server-side with a shared event ID.
Existing patients and reschedules (excluded)
Kept in practice reporting, left out of every ad conversion.
FAQ
WebMD Care questions, answered
Not that we've found. WebMD Care's help center documents no way to add your own tags to a profile, so tracking starts when the patient reaches your website or your phone.
Not by themselves. WebMD sends requests to your inbox, not to Google Ads. We count a request only when a recorded ad click sits behind it, and we send the kept visit rather than the request.
WebMD Care says its call tracking shows which callers came from your WebMD or Vitals profiles. We check which number your profile shows, then keep those calls apart from the ones your ads drive.
Test it first. It's WebMD's widget, so your Google tag may not see a request made inside it. On ad landing pages we usually keep your own form or scheduler and use the widget on other pages.
It depends on new patients, not views or calls. Once both sources are counted from your own records over a closed month, you get a cost per new patient for each.
We keep conditions, appointment reasons and visit details out of everything sent to Google and Meta. They get a conversion, a click ID and, only with consent, hashed contact details.
