Vitals conversion tracking: patients check your ratings before they call, and your ads lose the credit

Someone with knee pain clicks your orthopedic ad, leaves, reads your ratings on Vitals, then dials the number listed there. Google Ads records a click that went nowhere, and the campaign that started it looks like dead weight. We split Vitals calls and visits from ad leads, count new patients from your practice records, and send Google and Meta only the consults their clicks produced.

Vitals · what breaks

What goes wrong when Vitals sits between your ads and your consults

  1. 01

"They clicked my ad, then called from Vitals"

Patients vet a surgeon before booking, and that ratings check happens on vitals.com, where your Google tag and Meta Pixel never run. The ad that found the patient gets no conversion, so Smart Bidding shifts budget away from the very campaign filling your schedule.

  2. 02

"Every new-patient call sounds the same"

When your Vitals listing, website and ads all ring one front desk, a caller who read your Vitals reviews and a caller from your knee replacement ad look identical. Neither channel gets a real cost per consult, so you can't tell which one to fund.

  3. 03

"Is my Vitals profile even showing the right number?"

A profile can exist before anyone at your practice claims it. If it lists an old suite or a dead line, patients your ads warmed up call the wrong place and the consult vanishes.

  4. 04

"I have no idea what Vitals is worth to us"

Clicks from a Vitals profile reach your site as a vitals.com referral at best, with no tie to the phone call that usually follows. Without a source on those calls, you can't price Vitals against the money you spend on Google and Meta.

Vitals · the fix

What changes after the fix — Vitals

  • Each consult credited once

Vitals, Google Ads, Meta and physician referrals become separate lines in a monthly report built from your new-patient list.

  • Google Ads trained on ad patients only

Click IDs are stored with each lead on your site, kept appointments go back by offline import, and people who found you through Vitals stay out of the bidding signal.

  • Every physician's listing checked

You get a list of each doctor's Vitals profile with any wrong number, old suite or departed physician flagged, so your staff can claim and correct them before more ad-warmed patients call the wrong place.

Vitals · architecture

What Vitals actually lets you hook into

Very little. Your profile is a page on Vitals' site, so tracking begins where the patient reaches your website or phone.

  1. 1

Profile claiming for physicians and staff

Vitals' claim form says only physicians or their staff may claim a profile. What you can edit afterward isn't spelled out, so we confirm it with you.

  2. 2

    No slot for your tags

We found no documented way to add a Google tag, Meta Pixel or Tag Manager container to a Vitals profile, and Vitals' terms bar framing or wrapping its pages.

  3. 3

    Appointment option: check, don't assume

We found no official documentation of how a patient requests an appointment from a profile. We look at yours and follow any booking or request button to see where it lands.

  4. 4

The phone number on each profile

Confirm whether it's your current office line, an old number or something else, because that decides how Vitals calls get separated.

  5. 5

    No provider data feed

We found no webhook, export or API for providers, so Vitals results are measured from your phones and new-patient records.

Vitals · diagnose

Where Vitals tracking breaks, in the order we check

Profiles first: a wrong number on one surgeon's page loses patients before any tag can see them.

  1. 01

Look up every physician on Vitals

Including doctors who left or moved locations.

  2. 02

Check the referral-source field at scheduling

If most new patients say "internet," add Vitals, Google, Facebook and physician referral as choices.

  3. 03

    Read vitals.com referrals in GA4

See whether profile visits appear as their own source or vanish into direct traffic.

  4. 04

Open your Google Ads conversion actions

Count how many actions are phone taps or page views standing in for a consult, since a patient who taps your number after reading Vitals inflates those too.

  5. 05

Compare ad-reported conversions with first visits

Set a closed month of each campaign's reported conversions against first visits in your practice management system, with Vitals-sourced patients pulled out.

Vitals · prove

How we prove the Vitals split holds

Tested with a live call, a live profile click and a real month of new patients at your practice.

Source of truth

Your practice management system's new-patient list with referral source and first-visit date, since Vitals provides no booking or call records we could find

  • A test call to the number on a physician's Vitals profile, recorded as Vitals and not as Google.
  • If the profile links to your website, a click on that link reported in GA4 under Vitals.
  • A month of first visits matched by source against Google Ads and Meta.
  • Imported kept consults visible in Google Ads under the right campaigns.
  • Meta events checked for any condition, procedure or visit detail before launch.
  • Rerun 30 days later, and whenever a physician joins, leaves or moves offices.

Vitals · free audit

What we check in the free audit

  • Look up every physician on Vitals
  • Check the referral-source field at scheduling

Vitals · when not to buy

When you don't need this for Vitals

Some practices only need a profile cleanup.

  • If you don't advertise on Google or Meta, a correct profile and a source question at scheduling are enough.
  • If your new-patient list shows Vitals sends almost nobody, keep the profiles accurate and spend nothing measuring them.
  • If nearly all your consults come from physician referrals, referral tracking matters more than ad attribution.
  • If the only problem is an outdated phone number, a physician or staff member can claim the profile through Vitals' form and ask for the correction without us.

Vitals · what we deliver

The event map around your Vitals profiles

  • Visit from a Vitals profile

Sessions referred by vitals.com, grouped in GA4 under Vitals instead of blending into generic referral traffic, wherever a profile links to your site.

  • Call from a Vitals listing

Separated by a source question at scheduling or, where it won't muddy your listings, a dedicated line we weigh with you first.

  • Ad-click lead on your site

Consult request or call with the Google click ID or Meta click ID saved on the lead record.

  • Consult scheduled

The qualified step, read from your practice management system with the original source attached.

  • New patient seen

The conversion. Sent to Google Ads and Meta only when the patient traces back to an ad click.

  • Existing patients and referrals (excluded)

Follow-up callers who found your number on Vitals and patients sent by another physician are logged, never counted as acquisition.

FAQ

Vitals questions, answered

We found no documented way to do it. The profile is Vitals' page, so tracking starts when a patient reaches your website or calls a number you control.
