How to track quote request to closed job for Amazon Ads

A quote request is the cheapest thing a home services or contracting funnel produces, and the population that requests the most quotes is the population most likely to buy on price. The job that actually closes lives in a field service or job management system, weeks later, at a value that varies by an order of magnitude between a repair and a replacement. On Amazon Ads the specifics that matter are the click identifier (no click identifier for on-Amazon conversions), the import mechanism (the Amazon Ads conversion API, for off-Amazon destinations only), and Deduplication only arises for off-Amazon conversions where both a tag and a server event exist. The chain only works end to end if the identifier is captured on landing and stored on the job record in your field service or job management system — no cookie survives the gap between quote requested and job completed.

The problem

Where this funnel usually breaks

Amazon Ads · Quote → closed job-specific issues
Leak #01

The identifier dies at the job system boundary

The lead form captures it, and the estimator creates the job in software that never received the field. This one hop explains most broken attribution in contracting.

Leak #02

Estimates counted as conversions

An estimate is not revenue, and the estimate-to-close rate varies enough by campaign to reverse which one looks best.

Leak #03

Contract values averaged

The difference between a repair and a replacement is exactly the signal bidding needs. Averaging removes it.

Specific to Amazon Ads × Quote → closed job

Amazon Ads and contracting: no on-Amazon job to attribute

There is usually nothing to track. Sponsored ads sell products on Amazon listings, not your estimate visit. Only Amazon DSP driving to your own site can carry a click identifier, which you would capture on the quote form and store on the job record before sending the signed job back as an off-Amazon conversion.

A contractor's job is signed on a site visit and recorded in a field service system, which is a long way from anything Amazon measures. Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands exist to sell items on Amazon, so for a quote-to-job funnel they are simply not the tool. If someone proposes them for a remodeling business, ask what exactly would be measured.

The one route that fits is Amazon DSP sending audiences, such as recent movers or buyers of home products, to your own landing page. In that case the click can carry an identifier onto your quote form, and the signed job can be sent back from the job system as an off-Amazon conversion with its contract value. Confirm with your DSP contact which identifier and conversion method your setup supports before building, because it varies by product.

The realistic break is volume. DSP is bought on impressions at scale, while a contractor's service area might produce a few signed jobs a month from all channels combined. The number of DSP-attributed jobs will be too small to read, so a geo test comparing exposed and unexposed service areas is the fairer measure.

Architecture

The exact event sequence

Five stages. The break is almost always between stages one and four, where the identifier has to survive a handoff from a web form into a field service system that a different team administers — and where the value spread between a small repair and a full replacement is wide enough that averaging destroys the signal. The identifier has to survive all of them.

  1. Step 1

    Quote requested

A form or a call. High volume, and most of it is comparison shopping across three or four vendors.

  2. Step 2

    Estimate scheduled

A time commitment from the customer, and the first signal that means anything.

  3. Step 3

    Estimate attended

The visit actually happened. No-show rates on cold paid traffic are meaningful and differ by campaign.

  4. Step 4

    Job signed

The money event, at the actual contract value rather than an average.

  5. Step 5

    Job completed

Final revenue, which can differ from the contract once change orders land.

Diagnostic sequence

What's specific to Amazon Ads

The funnel logic above is the same wherever you advertise. These are the parts that change because it's Amazon Ads.

  1. 1

Click identifier: no click identifier for on-Amazon conversions

This is the important thing and most guidance skips it: Amazon Ads spans two very different situations. Sponsored ad formats driving to an Amazon listing produce conversions Amazon measures itself, with no click identifier passed to you and no per-order join available. Amazon DSP driving to your own site is a different case, where a click identifier can reach your landing page and be captured like any other network's.

  2. 2

Import mechanism: conversion upload, where applicable

Where you are driving to your own site, conversions can be sent back. Where you are driving to an Amazon listing, the transaction happens inside Amazon's checkout and there is nothing to send — Amazon's own attribution reporting is the only view available and it is aggregated.

  3. 3

    Deduplication

For on-Amazon purchases the question does not apply, because you are not measuring the conversion at all — Amazon is. For traffic to your own site the usual shared-identifier pattern applies.

  4. 4

    Window and timing

Amazon's attribution windows differ by ad product and by whether the conversion happens on Amazon or on your site. Establish which product and which destination you are reporting on before comparing any figure.

  5. 5

    The Amazon Ads gotcha

The structural limit is worth stating plainly to anyone selling you on this: for sales that complete inside Amazon, per-order click attribution does not exist and cannot be built. Amazon Attribution gives aggregated, delayed reporting. Anyone offering per-order joins on Amazon-completed sales is describing something that is not available.

Source-of-truth validation

How to prove the chain works

One real journey, followed all the way, then a reconciliation. Neither on its own is enough.

Source of truthyour job management system's signed and completed jobs, by date, at their contract values
  • A live Amazon Ads ad clicked, and the identifier confirmed present on the landing URL.
  • The same identifier confirmed on the job record in your field service or job management system after a full real journey through every step.
  • Job completed confirmed arriving at Amazon Ads, verified by Amazon's own attribution reporting for on-Amazon sales, and your normal reconciliation for off-Amazon conversions.
  • Your job management system's signed and completed jobs, by date, at their contract values reconciled against Amazon Ads per record over a fully closed window.
  • The same reconciliation repeated 30 days later.

Straight talk

When this doesn't apply to you

Worth checking before you build anything, because two of these are common and both mean the work isn't worth doing.

  • If you close on the first call at a flat price with no site visit, this funnel collapses into a much simpler one and you do not need the job system in the loop. Say so before anyone quotes you for it.
  • If all your Amazon Ads spend drives to Amazon listings, there is no conversion tracking build here — only a reporting exercise inside Amazon's own tools, and it is worth knowing that before commissioning anything.
  • If your cycle from click to job completed regularly exceeds the import window, the final event can't drive bidding whatever you build. Optimize toward attended estimate, valued at your own estimate-to-close rate instead and use the later data for budget decisions rather than for bidding.
  • If almost none of your job records carry a click identifier today, that's the whole project. Fix capture first — the import is the easy half and no tooling rescues a record with nothing to reference.
The outcome

What working looks like

Job completed attributed to the click

Server-side

Weeks later if necessary, because the identifier lives on the job record in your field service or job management system rather than in a cookie.

Amazon Ads bidding fed the real outcome

8+ EMQ

Via conversion upload, where applicable, so it optimizes toward jobs that actually close rather than toward quote requests.

A reconciliation that closes

Deduped

Your job management system's signed and completed jobs, by date, at their contract values matched per record against what Amazon Ads reports, over a fully closed window.

What you get

The implementation, on Amazon Ads

Item 01

Capture the Amazon click identifier, where one exists on landing

For off-Amazon destinations, capture and persist the click identifier as with any network. For on-Amazon destinations there is nothing to capture.

Item 02

Persist it to the job record in your field service or job management system

Capture the identifier at the landing page, store it server-side, and write it onto the job record when the estimator creates it — not only onto the web lead, which is where most setups stop.

Item 03

Send job completed from the record

The job management system, when the contract is signed — with the real contract value and the job type attached. Fire on completion instead if change orders routinely move the number and you would rather report what was invoiced. Dispatched to Amazon Ads through the Amazon Ads conversion API, for off-Amazon destinations only.

Item 04

Deduplicate and reverse

Deduplication only arises for off-amazon conversions where both a tag and a server event exist. Cancelled jobs and contracts that never break ground should reverse. In contracting this is common enough that ignoring it overstates reported revenue by a visible margin.

Got questions?

The honestanswers.

No buzzwords, no upsell. If we don’t know, we say so.

01Can a home services company track jobs from Amazon Ads?

Only for Amazon DSP campaigns that send people to your own site. Sponsored ads on Amazon listings have no path to your job records.

02How should a contractor measure Amazon DSP?

Send signed jobs back as off-Amazon conversions where your setup supports it, and compare exposed and unexposed service areas, because job counts will be too low to read per campaign.

03Why isn't estimate scheduled enough to optimize on?

Because quote requests are dominated by people collecting three bids, and the campaigns that produce the cheapest quote requests routinely produce the worst close rates. Optimizing on quote volume lowers your cost per quote and does nothing to your revenue.

04How does the identifier survive to job completed?

It doesn't, as a cookie — the gap is too long. It has to be written onto the job record in your field service or job management system at the point of quote requested, where it lives as a field rather than as browser storage.

05What does Amazon Ads need to accept the conversion?

For off-Amazon conversions: an event, a timestamp, a value and the click identifier. For on-Amazon conversions: nothing, because the measurement is not yours to do.

06How long does this take to build?

Two to four days for the implementation, plus a closed reconciliation window before we'd call it verified. Capture and persistence are the fiddly parts; the import itself is usually an afternoon.

07Can I do this myself?

Yes, and the reference pages on this site cover the mechanics. The part that's genuinely tedious rather than clever is keeping the Amazon click identifier, where one exists alive through multi-step forms and the handoff from the web lead into the field service system, which fails silently at every stage.
