How to track quote request to closed job for Meta Ads
A quote request is the cheapest thing a home services or contracting funnel produces, and the population that requests the most quotes is the population most likely to buy on price. The job that actually closes lives in a field service or job management system, weeks later, at a value that varies by an order of magnitude between a repair and a replacement. On Meta Ads the specifics that matter are the click identifier (fbclid, which becomes the _fbc cookie), the import mechanism (the Conversions API), and deduplication is on event_name and event_id together, so both paths must send the same ID and the identically-cased name. The chain only works end to end if the identifier is captured on landing and stored on the job record in your field service or job management system — no cookie survives the gap between quote requested and job completed.

Where this funnel usually breaks
The identifier dies at the job system boundary
The lead form captures it, and the estimator creates the job in software that never received the field. This one hop explains most broken attribution in contracting.
Estimates counted as conversions
An estimate is not revenue, and the estimate-to-close rate varies enough by campaign to reverse which one looks best.
Contract values averaged
The difference between a repair and a replacement is exactly the signal bidding needs. Averaging removes it.

Meta: send signed jobs against the lead ID, optimize inside 7 days
Capture fbclid and _fbc on the quote form, or the Meta lead ID for instant forms, store it on the job record, and send the signed job from your field service system through the Conversions API with the contract value. Optimize on an earlier stage that happens inside Meta's 7-day click window and keep the signed job for reporting.
Home services on Meta usually run on instant forms, and those leads never visit your site, so there is no fbclid at all. The identifier is Meta's own lead ID, and it has to travel from the lead download into the field service system with the job. Meta's conversion leads optimization can learn from CRM stage events sent back against that lead ID, which is the cleanest way to stop it buying people who request quotes and never book an estimate.
Timing works against you here. A replacement job often signs two or three weeks after the click, outside the default 7-day click window, so a signed job sent then will rarely be credited. Choose estimate scheduled or estimate attended as the optimization event because it lands inside the window, and send the signed job with its value as Purchase or a custom event so you can read real revenue per campaign.
Instant form leads are notoriously low intent in contracting, because submitting takes two taps without leaving the app. Adding a qualifying question about project type and timeline costs volume and usually raises the attended-estimate rate. Ordinary home-improvement ads are generally not a special ad category, but an ad that leads with financing may be, which changes the targeting you can use, so check before you build audiences.
Architecture
The exact event sequence
Five stages. The break is almost always between stages one and four, where the identifier has to survive a handoff from a web form into a field service system that a different team administers — and where the value spread between a small repair and a full replacement is wide enough that averaging destroys the signal. The identifier has to survive all of them.
Step 1
Quote requested
A form or a call. High volume, and most of it is comparison shopping across three or four vendors.
Step 2
Estimate scheduled
A time commitment from the customer, and the first signal that means anything.
Step 3
Estimate attended
The visit actually happened. No-show rates on cold paid traffic are meaningful and differ by campaign.
Step 4
Job signed
The money event, at the actual contract value rather than an average.
Step 5
Job completed
Final revenue, which can differ from the contract once change orders land.
Diagnostic sequence
What's specific to Meta Ads
The funnel logic above is the same wherever you advertise. These are the parts that change because it's Meta Ads.
- 1
Click identifier: fbclid, which becomes the _fbc cookie
fbclid arrives on the landing URL and is normally written into the _fbc cookie. If it isn't captured on landing, _fbc never exists — and _fbc is the strongest click signal Meta has, so its absence caps your match quality regardless of what else you send. Forward _fbp too, from the browser rather than regenerating it server-side.
- 2
Import mechanism: the Conversions API
Server events go through CAPI with an action_source describing where the conversion happened. Offline outcomes flow through the same API rather than a separate product. Verify current field names against Meta's documentation before building — this surface changes.
- 3
Deduplication
This is the mechanism that decides whether adding CAPI helps or doubles your conversions. Both the Pixel and the server event must carry the same event_id — the order or booking reference works best, because both sides can produce it without coordinating. A case difference in the event name alone produces two events even with a matching ID. Read the Deduplicated indicator in Events Manager over a full week, not one session.
- 4
Window and timing
Meta's default attribution is a 7-day click and 1-day view. View-through is included by default, which is a large part of why Meta claims more conversions than your other platforms — that overlap is expected rather than a fault.
- 5
The Meta gotcha
Match quality is where most Meta accounts lose attribution, and it's almost always normalization rather than coverage. An email hashed with a capital letter, or a phone hashed with brackets, produces a perfectly valid hash that matches nobody and errors nowhere. Normalize first, then hash, and read the score per event rather than overall.
Source-of-truth validation
How to prove the chain works
One real journey, followed all the way, then a reconciliation. Neither on its own is enough.
- A live Meta ad clicked, and the identifier confirmed present on the landing URL.
- The same identifier confirmed on the job record in your field service or job management system after a full real journey through every step.
- Job completed confirmed arriving at Meta Ads, verified by the Deduplicated indicator and the per-event match quality score, both read over seven days.
- Your job management system's signed and completed jobs, by date, at their contract values reconciled against Meta Ads per record over a fully closed window.
- The same reconciliation repeated 30 days later.
Straight talk
When this doesn't apply to you
Worth checking before you build anything, because two of these are common and both mean the work isn't worth doing.
- If you close on the first call at a flat price with no site visit, this funnel collapses into a much simpler one and you do not need the job system in the loop. Say so before anyone quotes you for it.
- If you're advertising a business type Meta restricts data collection for — health being the obvious one — the parameters you can legitimately send are narrower, and that constraint should shape the build rather than be worked around.
- If your cycle from click to job completed regularly exceeds the import window, the final event can't drive bidding whatever you build. Optimize toward attended estimate, valued at your own estimate-to-close rate instead and use the later data for budget decisions rather than for bidding.
- If almost none of your job records carry a click identifier today, that's the whole project. Fix capture first — the import is the easy half and no tooling rescues a record with nothing to reference.
What working looks like
Job completed attributed to the click
Server-sideWeeks later if necessary, because the identifier lives on the job record in your field service or job management system rather than in a cookie.
Meta bidding fed the real outcome
8+ EMQVia the Conversions API, so it optimizes toward jobs that actually close rather than toward quote requests.
A reconciliation that closes
DedupedYour job management system's signed and completed jobs, by date, at their contract values matched per record against what Meta Ads reports, over a fully closed window.
The implementation, on Meta Ads
Capture fbclid and _fbc on landing
fbclid is appended automatically on ad clicks. Capture it on landing and persist it — if you only ever read the _fbc cookie later, you're depending on a cookie that Safari caps at seven days when it's set through JavaScript.
Persist it to the job record in your field service or job management system
Capture the identifier at the landing page, store it server-side, and write it onto the job record when the estimator creates it — not only onto the web lead, which is where most setups stop.
Send job completed from the record
The job management system, when the contract is signed — with the real contract value and the job type attached. Fire on completion instead if change orders routinely move the number and you would rather report what was invoiced. Dispatched to Meta Ads through the Conversions API.
Deduplicate and reverse
Deduplication is on event_name and event_id together, so both paths must send the same id and the identically-cased name. Cancelled jobs and contracts that never break ground should reverse. In contracting this is common enough that ignoring it overstates reported revenue by a visible margin.

The honestanswers.
No buzzwords, no upsell. If we don’t know, we say so.
01Can Meta optimize home services ads for closed jobs?
Only if closed jobs come back fast and often enough. Most contractors get better results optimizing on attended estimates sent via the Conversions API and reporting signed jobs separately.
02Do Meta instant form leads have an fbclid?
No. The person never lands on your site, so the identifier is Meta's lead ID, which you must store on the job record and send back with the conversion.
03Why isn't estimate scheduled enough to optimize on?
Because quote requests are dominated by people collecting three bids, and the campaigns that produce the cheapest quote requests routinely produce the worst close rates. Optimizing on quote volume lowers your cost per quote and does nothing to your revenue.
04How does the identifier survive to job completed?
It doesn't, as a cookie — the gap is too long. It has to be written onto the job record in your field service or job management system at the point of quote requested, where it lives as a field rather than as browser storage.
05What does Meta Ads need to accept the conversion?
event_name from the standard set with exact casing, event_time in seconds, a shared event_id, an action_source, and hashed user_data that was normalized before hashing. Purchase additionally requires value and currency.
06How long does this take to build?
Two to four days for the implementation, plus a closed reconciliation window before we'd call it verified. Capture and persistence are the fiddly parts; the import itself is usually an afternoon.
07Can I do this myself?
Yes, and the reference pages on this site cover the mechanics. The part that's genuinely tedious rather than clever is keeping fbclid and _fbc alive through multi-step forms and the handoff from the web lead into the field service system, which fails silently at every stage.
