Google VoicePhone systems

Your ads ring your Google Voice number. Voice can't tell you which ad did it.

Salons, martial arts schools and coaches put one Google Voice number on the site, the Business Profile and the ads. Voice shows who called or texted, never the click behind it. We put Google forwarding numbers in front of your Voice line, qualify calls from your Admin console log, and send Google and Meta only the callers who booked.

Google Voice · what breaks

What goes wrong when your ads ring a Google Voice line

  1. 01

"Every call shows up on the same Voice number."

Your site, Maps listing, flyers and ads all show one Voice number, so nobody knows which channel filled the calendar and budget moves on gut feel.

  2. 02

"Half my leads text, and the ads never get credit."

Clients text your Voice number about a lash fill or a birthday cake. Those texts never reach Google Ads or Meta as conversions, so the campaign that drove them looks dead and gets cut.

  3. 03

"Calls during class go straight to voicemail."

Do Not Disturb following your Calendar working hours, or a ring group set to voicemail after 30 unanswered seconds, drops paid callers mid-class. You still paid for the click.

  4. 04

"Google Ads shows a pile of calls. My book is half empty."

When every call past a set length counts, spam and regulars rescheduling teach Smart Bidding the same lesson as a new client, so it buys you more of them.

Google Voice · the fix

What changes after we fix it — Google Voice

  • Each source rings a number you can tell apart

Ad visitors see Google forwarding numbers, and your Business Profile can ring a separate ring group or auto attendant number, so the dialed number names the source.

  • Bidding learns from people who booked

Answered calls that became appointments go to Google Ads by caller number and start time, and to Meta as phone call events.

  • Missed ad calls show up by the hour

Unanswered ad calls are lined up against your Do Not Disturb hours and ring group rules, so you fix the schedule, not the budget.

Google Voice · architecture

What Google Voice actually lets you hook into

Voice is a phone system, not a tracking tool. These are the parts its documentation describes.

  1. 1

Voice log events in the Admin console

Each call and text logs source, destination, date, duration and the ring group or auto attendant. Exports run to 100,000 rows with the Audit & Investigation privilege.

  2. 2

    BigQuery export on Premier

Premier only. The weekly import can then run from a query instead of a manual export.

  3. 3

Numbers on ring groups and auto attendants

On Standard and Premier a ring group can hold more than one Voice number. We confirm each routes inbound before a channel gets its own.

  4. 4

    Call recording

Manual recording on every paid plan; automatic recording on Premier only, with admin access through Vault. Used to qualify calls, never sent to ads.

  5. 5

    No ad platform connection

Voice's help shows no Google Ads, GA4 or Meta integration, so attribution runs through forwarding numbers in front and Voice records behind.

Google Voice · diagnose

Where Google Voice tracking breaks, in diagnostic order

Start with the plan and admin access, because they decide whether a usable call log exists at all.

  1. 01

Confirm the Voice plan and who holds admin rights

A Workspace Voice subscription gives you log events; free Voice on a Gmail account only offers a personal data export.

  2. 02

List every surface showing the Voice number

One number on six surfaces means zero attribution.

  3. 03

Place a test call through a Google forwarding number

Confirm what Voice logs as the call source. If it shows the forwarding number rather than the caller, matching needs a different key.

  4. 04

Compare Google Ads call conversions with answered calls

Per call, over a closed week, using the Voice log as the reference.

  5. 05

Check Do Not Disturb, ring group and after-hours rules

Against your ad schedule, hour by hour.

  6. 06

    Count texts per number

Shows how many leads never call at all.

Google Voice · prove

The QA evidence — Google Voice

Run with real calls from a phone outside your organization, dialing the number a customer would actually see.

Source of truth

Google Voice log events in your Admin console: call source, call destination, date and duration for every call and text, with the ring group or auto attendant that took it

  • A test call through the forwarding number on your site, recorded in Google Ads and found in the Voice log.
  • The same test call imported once by caller number and start time, with no duplicate conversion.
  • A booked call sent to Meta as a phone call event and seen in Events Manager.
  • A call to voicemail confirmed absent from every ad platform.
  • A text to an ad-only Voice number logged under the right channel.
  • Answered ad calls reconciled against the Voice log over a closed week.
  • Run again after 30 days, and any time a ring group or auto attendant changes.

Google Voice · when not to buy

When you don't need this on Google Voice

Plenty of Voice users are better off with a quick look at their own call history.

  • If you're on free Google Voice, spend little on ads and know callers by name, export your call log monthly and read it yourself.
  • If you don't run Google or Meta ads and new clients find you through referrals or your Business Profile, there's no ad attribution to fix.
  • If your only paid channel is Local Services Ads, those leads are reported inside Local Services, which is a separate job.
  • If Google Ads already uses forwarding numbers and its call count roughly matches answered calls in your Voice log, a settings review is enough and we'll say so.

Google Voice · what we deliver

The event map on Google Voice

  • Phone link tapped

Browser signal on your site. Kept as a secondary event, never the bidding goal.

  • Ad call connected

A call through a Google forwarding number that passes your minimum length, recorded in Google Ads.

  • Text conversation started

From Voice log text events. Counted only when it reached an ad-only number.

  • Qualified call

Matched in the Voice log by caller, time and duration. Spam, existing clients and short hang-ups are excluded.

  • Booked or paid

Imported to Google Ads with caller number, call start time and value, and sent to Meta with the phone call action source.

  • Missed or voicemail

Logged for your schedule review and excluded from every ad platform.

Written guarantee

FAQ

Google Voice questions, answered

Not directly. Google Ads tracks calls through its own forwarding numbers, which ring your Voice line, and booked calls go back by import.
