Super Lawyers conversion tracking for firms that can't tell which cases their TopSpot signs
You earned the selection, then paid for a Premium profile and maybe a TopSpot. Now calls and "Contact me" inquiries from those listings land in the same intake log as your Google Ads and Meta leads, and nobody can say which channel signed the case. Super Lawyers' product pages don't mention call tracking or a pixel. We give every Super Lawyers touchpoint its own label, keep those clients out of the conversions your ads bid on, and put cost per signed case for each channel on one page.

Super Lawyers · what breaks
What goes wrong when Super Lawyers and your ads both bring cases
- 01
"Our badge sends ad clicks to our own profile"
The badge code links straight to your Super Lawyers profile. On a Google Ads landing page, a paid visitor can click it, call from the profile and sign. The click ID never reaches intake, so Google never sees that case and the keyword that produced it looks like it isn't working.
- 02
"We pay for TopSpot and can't tell what it brings"
TopSpot sits atop every results page for your chosen practice areas and cities. Calls go to the number on your listing; if that's your main line, they mix with Google calls and renewal becomes a hunch.
- 03
Super Lawyers clients counted as Google Ads wins
When intake marks every new retainer "Google", or your offline upload sends all signed cases, clients who found you through your profile or an Ask a Lawyer answer get credited to your ads. Smart Bidding then spends more chasing searches that never brought them.
- 04
GA4 shows almost no Super Lawyers traffic
Prospects can call from your listing or send the profile's "Contact me" form without ever loading your site, so GA4 never sees them. The ones who click through arrive as a superlawyers.com referral with an adSubId tag GA4 doesn't read, so the channel looks smaller in GA4 than in your case list.
Super Lawyers · the fix
What changes once Super Lawyers is tracked properly
Each placement reports separately
TopSpot, Spotlight, profile and Ask a Lawyer contacts carry their own source in intake wherever your listings let us separate them, so you see which paid placement your firm should keep.
Ad bidding learns only from ad-driven cases
Retainers with a Google or Meta click ID on the record go back to the platforms. Super Lawyers clients stay in your reports and never train the bidding.
Ad visitors stay on your pages
Badges move off paid landing pages, or open in a way that keeps the visit, and any badge click is logged so nothing drops out silently.
Super Lawyers · architecture
What Super Lawyers actually lets you hook into
Leads start on pages you don't control. This is what Super Lawyers documents, plus what we saw on a live results page.
- 1
Phone number on profiles, TopSpot and Spotlight
Shown as a tap-to-call link, with a call button on mobile. Tracking isn't mentioned, so we confirm whether the number is yours to set or a line Super Lawyers assigns.
- 2
Profile contact form
The Premium profile includes an email contact form and contact buttons. How inquiries reach you isn't documented, so we test one and trace where it lands.
- 3
Links to your website
Profiles link to your online properties. On listings we checked, Super Lawyers appends an adSubId parameter, and one firm had added its own UTM tags to the link.
- 4
Badge code
Free badge code for website use includes a direct link to your Super Lawyers profile, which is why its placement on your pages matters.
- 5
Firm profile analytics
The Premium Online Firm Profile lists analytic data as available. We ask your publisher what it covers before relying on it.
- 6
No pixel, webhook, API or Zapier
None of these appear in Super Lawyers' marketing pages, so nothing sends a lead to GA4 or an ad platform on its own.
Super Lawyers · diagnose
Where Super Lawyers tracking breaks, in diagnostic order
Start with the badge, because it's the one leak that costs your ads conversions rather than just muddying Super Lawyers' numbers.
- 01
Click your badge from an ad-tagged landing page
If it opens your profile in the same tab, paid visitors can call from there with no click ID.
- 02
Check the number on each Super Lawyers listing
Your main line, a call-tracking number or one also counted for Google Ads all report differently.
- 03
Send a test inquiry through your profile form
See where it arrives and what source your intake team gives it.
- 04
Click through to your site from your listing
Confirm GA4 files it under Super Lawyers, not a bare referral.
- 05
Review what your ad uploads include
Look for Super Lawyers clients in offline or enhanced conversion uploads.

Super Lawyers · when not to buy
When you don't need this for Super Lawyers
Being selected doesn't mean you have a tracking problem.
- If you only display the free badge and buy no Super Lawyers placements, keeping the badge off paid landing pages is the whole fix, and we'll tell you so.
- If you don't run Google Ads or Meta, there's no bidding to protect; asking callers how they found you may be enough.
- If your work comes almost entirely from lawyer referrals, your profile is mainly a credibility check and attributing it closely won't change your spend.
- If your intake software already tags Super Lawyers calls and inquiries correctly and your ad uploads only include click-ID matches, you're set.
Super Lawyers · what we deliver
The event map for Super Lawyers leads
Badge click on your own site
Recorded as an outbound event with the visitor's ad source, so a paid click that leaves for your profile is visible instead of lost.
Call from a Super Lawyers listing
Through a number used only on Super Lawyers, labeled by placement where each listing can carry its own. Reported, never sent to the ad platforms.
Profile "Contact me" inquiry
The name, phone and legal situation from the profile form logged in intake as a Super Lawyers lead the day it arrives.
Consultation booked
The qualified stage, counted per source and practice area from your intake records.
Retainer signed
The money event. Uploaded to Google Ads or Meta only when the record holds that platform's click ID; Super Lawyers retainers reported, not uploaded.
Excluded: lawyer referrals, existing clients, out-of-area inquiries
Attorneys vetting you before a referral, current clients calling the listed number and off-practice inquiries stay out of every count.
FAQ
Super Lawyers questions, answered
Its pages for TopSpot, Spotlight and Premium profiles show your phone number and a mobile call button but don't mention call tracking. Where you can set the number on your listing, we put a dedicated tracking number there.
They shouldn't. A call or inquiry from your profile carries no Google click ID, so uploading it would credit your ads with a case they didn't bring and skew bidding.
Not on pages that receive paid clicks unless it's set up so visitors don't leave for your profile. The badge code links directly to your Super Lawyers profile, where a visitor can call you with no ad attribution.
It's a parameter we saw Super Lawyers add to firm website links on its listings. GA4 doesn't treat it as a source, so we add UTM tags to the website URL in your profile.
No. Super Lawyers says selection comes from peer nominations and research, names the top 5% of lawyers in each state, and requires no purchase. TopSpot, Spotlight and Premium profiles are optional paid placements.
Only your own numbers can answer that. Once both are tracked to signed cases, you compare cost per case by practice area and city.
