Caring.com conversion tracking: know which move-ins your ads earned and which Caring.com sent
An adult daughter clicks your assisted living ad, reads your reviews on Caring.com, talks to one of its Family Advisors, and the referral lands with your sales director later. Google Ads shows a click that went nowhere, your CRM says "Caring.com," and nobody can say which channel filled the apartment. We keep Caring.com referrals in their own lane, count tours and move-ins from your own records, and send Google and Meta only the families their ads brought in.

Caring.com · what breaks
What goes wrong when Caring.com sits between your ads and your families
- 01
"The family clicked our ad, then came back through Caring.com"
Once a family speaks with a Caring.com Family Advisor, the referral arrives through Caring.com, not through your website, so your Google tag never sees it. The campaign that started the search gets no credit, and smart bidding starts starving it.
- 02
"Our CRM says Caring.com for half our inquiries, and I can't check it"
Referrals, listing calls and website visits from your Caring.com profile all get typed in as one source, or as "internet." You can't work out what a move-in from Caring.com costs next to one from Google or Facebook.
- 03
"We might be paying twice for the same family"
When one adult child touches your ad and your Caring.com listing, both channels can claim the tour. Budgets get set from two reports that each count the same family as theirs.
- 04
"Google Ads is learning from referrals it never touched"
If every new CRM lead feeds a Google Ads conversion, Caring.com referrals get mixed in with ad inquiries. Bidding then chases people your ads didn't find, and your cost per move-in looks better than it is.
Caring.com · the fix
What changes after the fix — Caring.com
One source per move-in, from your own records
Caring.com, Google Ads, Meta and walk-ins become separate lines in a monthly report built from your CRM's tours and move-ins.
Ads bid on families they actually reached
Click IDs are stored on inquiries from your own site and calls, move-ins are sent back, and Caring.com referrals stay out of the ad signal.
Your Caring.com spend judged on move-ins
A cost per tour and per move-in for your Caring.com partnership, set beside Google and Meta, so your next contract conversation starts from your numbers.
Caring.com · architecture
What Caring.com actually lets you hook into
Your listing lives on caring.com, not on your site, so the hooks are few. These are the pieces Caring.com documents for partners, plus what we confirm on your account.
- 1
Directory listing and Enhanced Listings
Caring.com says an upgraded listing ranks higher and lets you add photos, rates, descriptions, services and amenities. We found no documented place for a Google tag, Meta Pixel or Tag Manager container on it.
- 2
Inquiries and Family Advisor referrals
Caring.com says it passes along inquiries, leads and referrals for your listing, including families who spoke to its Family Advisors. We confirm how yours arrive and which fields come with them.
- 3
Partner Portal
Partners sign in to run review request campaigns. We check whether your portal shows a referral history with dates we can reconcile against.
- 4
Review integrations
Caring.com says it's integrated with reputation monitoring platforms such as Reputation.com and ReviewTrackers, and an Activated Insights integration sends reviews to Caring.com profiles. These move reviews, not referrals.
- 5
No click ID handoff
We found nothing documented that passes a Google or Meta click ID from Caring.com to you. Ad attribution starts on your website and your phone lines.
Caring.com · diagnose
Where Caring.com tracking breaks, in the order we check
Start in the CRM, because most communities and agencies can't separate Caring.com until the source field is trustworthy.
- 01
Read the lead source field in your CRM
If Caring.com, "internet" and "website" are used interchangeably, that's the first fix.
- 02
Check GA4 for caring.com referrals
See whether listing clicks show up as their own source or disappear into direct traffic.
- 03
Open your Google Ads conversion actions
Look for CRM triggers that fire on every new lead, Caring.com referrals included.
- 04
Match referrals against ad inquiries
Compare a month of Caring.com referrals with ad-click inquiries by name and phone to find families both channels claim.
- 05
Confirm move-ins carry a source
A tour with a source and a move-in without one breaks the report at the step that matters.
Caring.com · prove
How we prove the Caring.com split holds
Tested with a live listing click, a live ad inquiry and a real window of move-ins, not a sandbox.
Source of truth
Your CRM's tour, move-in and start-of-care records with lead source and dates, plus the referral list Caring.com delivers to your account
- A click from your Caring.com listing to your site, reported in GA4 as Caring.com.
- A test inquiry from an ad-tagged URL, with the Google click ID stored on the CRM record.
- A Caring.com referral entered once, under Caring.com, and absent from every ad conversion action.
- A closed window of move-ins matched by source against Google Ads, Meta and Caring.com.
- Imported move-ins visible in Google Ads against the right campaigns.
- Meta and Google events checked for diagnoses, care needs or other health details before go-live.
- Rerun a month later, and again whenever your listing's phone number or your referral delivery method changes.

Caring.com · when not to buy
When you don't need this for Caring.com
Some providers only need a cleaner source field.
- If you don't run Google or Meta ads, a strict source field in your CRM will tell you what Caring.com is worth.
- If Caring.com sends you only a handful of referrals a year, keep the listing accurate and don't spend money tracking it.
- If you're a placement advisor who competes with Caring.com rather than receiving its referrals, you need ad-side tracking, not this split.
- If a regional sales team already reconciles Caring.com referrals against move-ins every month, we'll fix the ad side and leave that process alone.

The event map around your Caring.com listing
Caring.com listing visit to your site
If your profile links to your website, those sessions are tagged so GA4 reports them as Caring.com rather than direct or organic.
Caring.com referral received
Logged once, under Caring.com, from however your account receives referrals (we confirm the delivery method and fields on your account), with the date and care type.
Ad-click inquiry on your own site or line
Form fill or call with the Google click ID or Meta click ID stored against the family's record.
Tour or in-home assessment held
The qualified step, marked in your CRM with its source so both channels are judged at the same stage.
Move-in or start of care
The conversion, confirmed in your CRM and sent to Google Ads and Meta only when the family came from an ad.
Existing residents, review alerts and repeat referrals (excluded)
Families already on your books, Caring.com New Review Alerts and the same family referred a second time are logged but never counted as new acquisition.
FAQ
Caring.com questions, answered
We found no documented way to do that. The listing is a Caring.com page, so your tracking starts when a family reaches your website or calls a number you control.
It shouldn't. A referral carries no click ID we know of, so we keep it out of ad conversions and only send move-ins tied to an ad click captured on your own site or phone line.
Your CRM usually records the last door the family walked through. We store the ad click on their first inquiry too, so you can see both touches and decide how to credit them.
That depends on your contract, which we don't assume. We put cost per tour and cost per move-in for both side by side from your own records, and you decide from there.
Sometimes. A dedicated line makes Caring.com calls easy to count, but swapping the number on a well-known senior care directory can leave your community's details mismatched across other sites, so we look at what your listing shows before touching it.
Diagnoses, care needs and visit notes never go to Google or Meta; events carry the stage and source only. Your compliance lead approves the event list before anything goes live.
