SimplePractice · Conversion tracking
Measuring ads for a SimplePractice practice, without pixels
SimplePractice says plainly that there are no third-party pixels in its clinician and client portals, and none on pages that request client information. For a therapy practice that is a feature rather than a bug, but it means the appointment request widget on your site is a sealed box to Google and Meta. What you can measure honestly is what happens on your own pages before someone opens it, and what shows up in your caseload afterward.

no SDR · no pitch deck · written remediation plan
Every figure above is either a commitment we put in writing or a countable fact. What your own setup is losing is not on this list, because we haven’t measured it yet — that happens on the call, against your own order records.

What goes wrong measuring SimplePractice
Pixels pasted next to the widget
Well-meant tags on the request page can reveal that a visitor sought therapy, the exact thing SimplePractice built around avoiding.
No completion signal
The widget documents no event or redirect, so nothing tells your site a request was sent.
Clicks reported as clients
A click on the request button is curiosity, and campaigns optimized on it attract more curiosity.
Directory referrals mixed with ads
Someone who found you in a directory and later clicked a branded ad gets credited to the ad.
Architecture
What SimplePractice actually lets you do
Less than any other tool on this list, and deliberately so.
Step 1
Request and contact widgets for your own site
Code you paste in; the form itself belongs to SimplePractice.
Step 2
No third-party pixels in the portals
SimplePractice's stated policy for clinician and client portals.
Step 3
None on pages that request client information
So there is nothing to hook onto inside the request flow.
Step 4
Check: anything visible outside the widget
Whether your page can see a click on the widget is worth testing; a submit signal is not documented.
Step 5
Check: your own records as the answer
New-client counts in SimplePractice are where the outcome lives.
Diagnostic sequence
Where measurement on a SimplePractice site breaks
Most of these are not technical faults. They are measurement promises that should never have been made.
- 1
List every script on the widget page
Anything beyond the widget and basic site code needs a reason to be there.
- 2
Find out what campaigns are optimizing toward
If it is a click on the request button, the bidding is chasing curiosity.
- 3
Compare platform conversions to new clients
Month by month; expect a gap and measure its size.
- 4
Check whether intake asks for referral source
Without it, branded search takes credit for word of mouth.
- 5
Separate directory and insurance-panel referrals
They arrive through the same widget and are not ad-driven.
Source-of-truth validation
The QA evidence on SimplePractice
Checked on your live site in a browser with tag debugging open, without submitting anyone's details.
- No ad-platform tag fires on any page that hosts the request or contact widget.
- Ad tags confirmed only on general informational pages.
- Campaign interest signals visible in Google Ads and GA4 with no client data attached.
- Referral source captured at intake for every new client that month.
- New clients by source reconciled against spend by campaign, as totals.
- Audited again after 30 days and whenever the site or widget code changes.
Straight talk
When you don't need this on SimplePractice
Most solo therapists fall into at least one of these.
- If your caseload is full from referrals and insurance panels, measuring paid ads is not your bottleneck.
- If you spend a few hundred dollars a month on Google, an intake question and a spreadsheet will tell you as much as we can.
- If you hoped to send client conversions to Meta, we will not build that, and you should be wary of anyone who offers to.
- If your group practice has its own marketing site with a separate general inquiry form, that form is the better place to measure.
Who this is for
Honest about who we’re a fit for.
We don’t take every project. Here’s how to tell if we’re right for you.
You’re a great fit if…
- You run SimplePractice (or are migrating to it)
- You spend $5K+/month on paid ads (Meta, Google, TikTok, Microsoft, LinkedIn)
- Your reported ROAS doesn’t match what your bank account is saying
- You want to own your tracking stack — no monthly SaaS fees forever
- You have 2–4 days to do this once and never think about it again
Skip us if…
- You spend less than $500/month on paid ads (browser pixel is fine)
- You want a SaaS dashboard with monthly fees forever (Triple Whale, Hyros)
- You need attribution modeling — we fix the data foundation, not multi-touch reports
- You want a 6-month enterprise consulting engagement (we ship in 4 days)
- You expect us to manage your ad accounts (we don’t — that’s a different service)
If you’re still unsure, book the call anyway— we’ll tell you straight whether we can help.

Got questions?
The honestanswers.
No buzzwords, no upsell. If we don’t know, we say so.
01Can we add the Meta Pixel to the SimplePractice widget?
No. SimplePractice states there are no third-party pixels in its portals or on pages that request client information, and that is the right call for a therapy practice.
02Is it legal to track people who visit a therapist's website?
Many practices are HIPAA covered entities, and tracking on pages tied to seeking care carries real risk. We keep ad tags off those pages and send no health information to any platform; for a formal answer, ask your compliance or legal adviser.
03So how do we know if Google Ads is working?
Compare new clients by intake source with spend by campaign every month. It is slower than a pixel, but it measures clients, which is what you are paying for.
04Can Google optimize on anything at all?
On a general signal from pages that say nothing about a condition, such as your fees or about page. Treat it as a weak proxy and judge the campaign on new clients.
05Does SimplePractice report where clients came from?
Nothing documented ties a request to an ad campaign. Ask at intake and record the answer; that question does the attribution work the widget cannot.
