How to track quiz completion to segmented offer for Amazon Ads
A quiz funnel deliberately shows different people different offers at different prices, which means a single blended conversion value describes none of them. The segment is the most valuable thing the funnel produces and it is usually thrown away before the conversion is sent. On Amazon Ads the specifics that matter are the click identifier (no click identifier for on-Amazon conversions), the import mechanism (the Amazon Ads conversion API, for off-Amazon destinations only), and Deduplication only arises for off-Amazon conversions where both a tag and a server event exist. The chain only works end to end if the identifier is captured on landing and stored on the order, with the quiz segment attached — no cookie survives the gap between ad click and purchase.

Where this funnel usually breaks
Quiz completion treated as the conversion
It is free, it is satisfying, and people complete quizzes for fun. Optimizing toward it finds you exactly those people.
Segment dropped from the conversion
Every segment then reports the blended average, so the platform cannot learn which audiences reach the expensive offer and which reach the cheap one.
Quiz app breaking identifier capture
Most quiz builders render as an embedded application that rewrites the page. If capture runs after it, a share of identifiers is lost on slower connections.
Specific to Amazon Ads × Quiz → segmented offer
Amazon Ads quiz funnels: one Attribution tag per segment's link
For quiz funnels on Amazon Ads, the quiz runs on your site and the segment is lost when the buyer clicks through to an Amazon listing. Use a separate Amazon Attribution tag on each segment's outbound link for aggregated per-segment counts. Only DSP traffic driving to your own checkout can send per-order purchases with an identifier.
Amazon's sponsored formats send people straight to a listing, so there is nowhere for a quiz to run. A quiz funnel only touches Amazon in two ways: DSP traffic driving to a quiz on your own site, or a quiz on your site whose recommended offer is an Amazon listing rather than your checkout.
The second case is common for brands that sell mainly on Amazon, and it is where the segment disappears. Once the buyer clicks through to Amazon, you get no order, no price and no segment back. What you can do is give each segment's outbound link its own Amazon Attribution tag, so Amazon's aggregated reports at least show which recommendations led to sales. It will not tell you which person bought, and you should not plan as if it could.
For DSP traffic to your own checkout, capture the click identifier before the quiz loads, store it on the order with the segment, and send the purchase with the real price. Check whether your DSP setup supports server-side conversion upload before building it.
Architecture
The exact event sequence
Five stages. The break is between stages three and five: the segment exists, it is known, and it does not survive to the conversion payload. The identifier has to survive all of them.
Step 1
Ad click
Onto the quiz landing page. Capture before the quiz application initializes.
Step 2
Quiz started
High volume, near-zero commitment. Not a conversion.
Step 3
Quiz completed
The answers are the segmentation. This is where the funnel's real asset is created.
Step 4
Offer shown
Different per segment, at different prices. Which offer someone saw changes what their conversion is worth.
Step 5
Purchase
Sent with the segment attached, or the value field is an average of unrelated products.
Diagnostic sequence
What's specific to Amazon Ads
The funnel logic above is the same wherever you advertise. These are the parts that change because it's Amazon Ads.
- 1
Click identifier: no click identifier for on-Amazon conversions
This is the important thing and most guidance skips it: Amazon Ads spans two very different situations. Sponsored ad formats driving to an Amazon listing produce conversions Amazon measures itself, with no click identifier passed to you and no per-order join available. Amazon DSP driving to your own site is a different case, where a click identifier can reach your landing page and be captured like any other network's.
- 2
Import mechanism: conversion upload, where applicable
Where you are driving to your own site, conversions can be sent back. Where you are driving to an Amazon listing, the transaction happens inside Amazon's checkout and there is nothing to send — Amazon's own attribution reporting is the only view available and it is aggregated.
- 3
Deduplication
For on-Amazon purchases the question does not apply, because you are not measuring the conversion at all — Amazon is. For traffic to your own site the usual shared-identifier pattern applies.
- 4
Window and timing
Amazon's attribution windows differ by ad product and by whether the conversion happens on Amazon or on your site. Establish which product and which destination you are reporting on before comparing any figure.
- 5
The Amazon Ads gotcha
The structural limit is worth stating plainly to anyone selling you on this: for sales that complete inside Amazon, per-order click attribution does not exist and cannot be built. Amazon Attribution gives aggregated, delayed reporting. Anyone offering per-order joins on Amazon-completed sales is describing something that is not available.
Source-of-truth validation
How to prove the chain works
One real journey, followed all the way, then a reconciliation. Neither on its own is enough.
- A live Amazon Ads ad clicked, and the identifier confirmed present on the landing URL.
- The same identifier confirmed on the order, with the quiz segment attached after a full real journey through every step.
- Purchase confirmed arriving at Amazon Ads, verified by Amazon's own attribution reporting for on-Amazon sales, and your normal reconciliation for off-Amazon conversions.
- Your order system, with the quiz result stored on the order reconciled against Amazon Ads per record over a fully closed window.
- The same reconciliation repeated 30 days later.
Straight talk
When this doesn't apply to you
Worth checking before you build anything, because two of these are common and both mean the work isn't worth doing.
- If your quiz leads to one offer at one price, the segmentation adds nothing and this is an ordinary lead funnel.
- If all your Amazon Ads spend drives to Amazon listings, there is no conversion tracking build here — only a reporting exercise inside Amazon's own tools, and it is worth knowing that before commissioning anything.
- If your cycle from click to purchase regularly exceeds the import window, the final event can't drive bidding whatever you build. Optimize toward quiz completion with the segment attached as a dimension instead and use the later data for budget decisions rather than for bidding.
- If almost none of your segmented orders carry a click identifier today, that's the whole project. Fix capture first — the import is the easy half and no tooling rescues a record with nothing to reference.
What working looks like
Purchase attributed to the click
Server-sideWeeks later if necessary, because the identifier lives on the order, with the quiz segment attached rather than in a cookie.
Amazon Ads bidding fed the real outcome
8+ EMQVia conversion upload, where applicable, so it optimizes toward purchases, by segment rather than toward quiz completions.
A reconciliation that closes
DedupedYour order system, with the quiz result stored on the order matched per record against what Amazon Ads reports, over a fully closed window.
The implementation, on Amazon Ads
Capture the Amazon click identifier, where one exists on landing
For off-Amazon destinations, capture and persist the click identifier as with any network. For on-Amazon destinations there is nothing to capture.
Persist it to the order, with the quiz segment attached
Capture in the document head before the quiz application loads, and write both the identifier and the resulting segment onto the order.
Send purchase from the record
Your order system, with the quiz segment as a custom dimension and the actual price paid as the value. Dispatched to Amazon Ads through the Amazon Ads conversion API, for off-Amazon destinations only.
Deduplicate and reverse
Deduplication only arises for off-amazon conversions where both a tag and a server event exist. Refunds reverse, retaining the segment so the refund rate per segment stays visible.

The honestanswers.
No buzzwords, no upsell. If we don’t know, we say so.
01Can we see which quiz result led to an Amazon purchase?
Only in aggregate, by tagging each result's outbound Amazon link with its own Attribution tag. Per-order, per-person joins for sales completed on Amazon are not available.
02Can Sponsored Products ads drive traffic to our quiz?
No. Sponsored formats point at Amazon listings. Driving to a quiz on your own site requires DSP or another channel.
03Why isn't quiz started enough to optimize on?
Because completion rates are high and uniform while purchase rates differ wildly by segment, so completions carry almost no information about which traffic is worth buying.
04How does the identifier survive to purchase?
It doesn't, as a cookie — the gap is too long. It has to be written onto the order, with the quiz segment attached at the point of ad click, where it lives as a field rather than as browser storage.
05What does Amazon Ads need to accept the conversion?
For off-Amazon conversions: an event, a timestamp, a value and the click identifier. For on-Amazon conversions: nothing, because the measurement is not yours to do.
06How long does this take to build?
Two to four days for the implementation, plus a closed reconciliation window before we'd call it verified. Capture and persistence are the fiddly parts; the import itself is usually an afternoon.
07Can I do this myself?
Yes, and the reference pages on this site cover the mechanics. The part that's genuinely tedious rather than clever is keeping the Amazon click identifier, where one exists alive through multi-step forms and a quiz application that rewrites the page before your capture runs, which fails silently at every stage.
