Confido LegalPayments and financing

Your ads stop at the intake form. The retainer gets paid in Confido Legal.

Google Ads and Meta see someone submit your consultation form, then lose them. Later, that person opens a Confido payment link on a Clio bill or a Lawmatics retainer request and pays the retainer on a Confido-hosted page, nowhere near your website. We connect each first retainer payment back to the ad click that started the matter, so bidding learns from paying clients instead of form fills.

Confido Legal · what breaks

What goes wrong when clients pay through Confido Legal

  1. 01

"Google counts consultations. Confido shows who actually retained us. Nothing connects them."

The retainer is paid on Confido's hosted page after a link goes out from Clio, Lawmatics or QuickBooks, so neither ad platform learns which campaign produced a paying client. A family law practice can end up cutting the keyword that brought in its best divorce retainers.

  2. 02

"Our ads keep finding people who never retain"

With no Confido payment data flowing back, Smart Bidding and Meta optimize toward whoever fills out the intake form fastest. A free-advice seeker and a DUI client who pays a flat fee look identical, and budget follows the cheaper one.

  3. 03

One payment plan looks like a string of new clients

Confido payment plans run as automatic recurring payments, and every installment arrives as its own transaction. Report them all and an immigration client paying monthly shows up as a fresh acquisition every month, inflating return on ad spend until nobody believes it.

  4. 04

A paid link that quietly bounces

Confido marks a payment link paid while an ACH payment is still PENDING. If the bank returns it, the link goes back to unpaid, but the conversion already sent to Google and Meta stays counted unless something reverses it.

Confido Legal · the fix

What changes — Confido Legal

  • Bidding learns from retained clients

Each first retainer payment reaches Google Ads and Meta tied to the original click, so campaigns are judged on clients who paid, not inquiries.

  • One client, one acquisition

Installments, evergreen replenishments and later invoice payments are logged for lifetime value and never counted as new matters.

  • Returns, refunds and chargebacks reversed

Confido sends events for refunds and ACH returns and records chargebacks as a status on the original payment. We catch all three and retract or adjust the matching conversion at each platform.

Confido Legal · architecture

What Confido Legal actually lets you hook into

Confido documents no place on its hosted payment page for a Google tag or Meta Pixel, so conversions have to come from its transaction records.

  1. 1

    Zapier trigger: New Transaction Processed

The documented route a firm can use on its own, followed by Confido's Zapier lookups for the client and payment link.

  2. 2

    Transaction webhooks

transaction.created, transaction.refunded and transaction.ach_returned are documented, with client, matter and payment link in the payload. There's no chargeback event, so we check those by status. Webhooks are enabled in Confido's Partner Portal, so we confirm whether your software vendor exposes them.

  3. 3

    GraphQL API

Documented, but access runs through a Confido Partner account. For most firms, Zapier is the practical path.

  4. 4

Payments posted back to practice software

Confido records payments against the matching Clio bill and posts them back to the right Lawmatics matter, including retainers taken on a Lawmatics intake form. That's where we join the payment to the intake record holding the click ID.

  5. 5

    No native ad-platform connection

Confido lists no Google Ads, GA4 or Meta integration, so every conversion those platforms receive is one we build.

Confido Legal · diagnose

Where Confido Legal tracking breaks, in diagnostic order

Start with the click ID. On most law firm setups the Confido payment data is clean and the attribution is what's missing.

  1. 01

Check whether the click ID reaches the intake record

One test inquiry from an ad-tagged URL, then open the lead.

  2. 02

Check that the intake lead and Confido client are the same person

Same email or phone, linked matter, no duplicate client created at billing.

  3. 03

Separate first retainers from everything else

Installments, evergreen top-ups, invoice payments and trust requests on existing matters.

  4. 04

Decide when a pending ACH payment counts

The link reads paid before funds clear, so pick the status the conversion waits for.

  5. 05

Confirm reversals reach the ad platforms

Refunds and ACH returns fire events; a chargeback only changes the payment's status, so it needs its own check.

Source of truth

Confido Legal transaction records: first retainer payments by date, with client, matter and status (deposited, returned, refunded or charged back)

  • One inquiry from an ad-tagged URL, with the click ID confirmed on the intake record and the matching Confido client.
  • Exactly one Google Ads and one Meta conversion per first retainer payment, with a shared event ID.
  • A payment-plan installment confirmed absent from acquisition conversions.
  • A refund and an ACH return each reversed at both platforms.
  • A payment split between trust and operating valued once, at the amount the firm chose.
  • First retainer payments reconciled record by record across a closed month.
  • Repeated 30 days later and after any change to your intake forms or billing software.

Confido Legal · when not to buy

When you don't need this on Confido Legal

Plenty of firms on Confido should spend their money somewhere else first.

  • If you're a contingency-fee personal injury or mass tort firm, clients don't pay a retainer at intake, and the Confido money that matters flows out as settlement disbursements. Track the signed fee agreement instead.
  • If nearly all new matters come from referrals and you run no paid ads, there's nothing to feed back.
  • If clients pay only when a matter closes, long after the click, judge your ads on signed engagements rather than Confido payments.
  • If your intake form doesn't save the click ID yet, fix that first. It's a smaller job, and we'll tell you so.

Confido Legal · what we deliver

The event map on Confido Legal

  • Intake form submitted

Leading signal on your site, with GCLID, fbclid and UTMs saved to the lead in your intake software.

  • Consultation booked or held

The qualified-lead step from Lawmatics, Clio Grow or your calendar, sent as a secondary conversion.

  • Retainer payment link created

Logged when Confido issues the link for a new matter. Useful for reporting, never counted as a conversion.

  • First retainer paid

The primary conversion, valued from the Confido transaction and matched to the click through the client and matter.

  • Installments, top-ups and invoice payments

Kept for lifetime-value reporting on estate planning, criminal defense and family law matters, excluded from acquisition.

  • ACH return, refund or chargeback

Reverses or adjusts the first-payment conversion. Settlement disbursements and vendor payments never go to ad platforms.

FAQ

Confido Legal questions, answered

Not in any way Confido documents. The payment page is hosted by Confido, and even a link embedded on your site runs inside a Confido iframe, so the payment is reported from Confido's transaction records through Zapier or webhooks, server-side.
