Customers pay you on Cash App. Your ads never see the money.
A client books braids from your Instagram ad, then sends the deposit to your $cashtag, and Meta records nothing but a link click. Cash App Pay at a Square checkout leaks too: desktop buyers scan a QR code, phone buyers jump into the app and only come back if the handoff works. We tie each Cash App payment to the ad lead that started it, so Google Ads and Meta learn from paid deposits.

Cash App for Business · what breaks
What goes wrong when customers pay with Cash App
- 01
"People pay my $cashtag every day. Google Ads says zero sales."
A $cashtag payment happens inside the Cash App app, where your Google tag and Meta Pixel can't see it, with no click ID. The campaign filling your cake order book looks dead, so you pause it or let bidding chase cheap clicks.
- 02
The Cash App Pay handoff drops the sale
Square's Cash App Pay shows desktop buyers a QR code to scan and sends phone buyers into the app, returning them to your site afterward. If that return page never loads in the same browser, your purchase tag never fires and the order goes unreported.
- 03
Meta is optimizing for DMs, not deposits
With no Cash App payment ever reported, Meta learns from whoever taps "Send message". Your barbershop ads keep finding people who ask about prices and never send the deposit to your $cashtag, and you pay for every one of those chats.
- 04
"I can't tell which payments came from ads"
A regular who pays your $cashtag every two weeks looks exactly like a first-time client from last Tuesday's ad, so you can't say what a new customer costs.
Cash App for Business · the fix
What changes once Cash App payments reach your ad accounts
Cash App Pay checkouts reported from Square's record
A completed wallet payment in Square fires the conversion server-side, linked to the stored ad click, whether or not the buyer came back to your page.
$cashtag payments credited to the right campaign
The click ID is captured when the lead books, and the matching Cash App payment goes to Google Ads and Meta as an offline conversion with its real amount.
Bidding learns from people who paid
Deposits and paid balances become the conversion, so your food truck catering or studio-time ads stop being judged on message taps.
Cash App for Business · architecture
What Cash App and Square actually let you hook into
Cash App Pay at checkout runs through Square, which documents its hooks. A plain $cashtag payment has no tracking hook we could confirm, so that path runs on your own records.
- 1
Cash App Pay in Square's Web Payments SDK
A QR dialog on desktop, a redirect back to your site on mobile, an ontokenization event when the buyer approves, and an optional referenceId for your own records.
- 2
Square Payments API
A Cash App payment is recorded as a wallet payment, with the buyer's $cashtag in its wallet details and an optional reference ID for another system.
- 3
Square webhooks
payment.created and payment.updated, refund.created and refund.updated, invoice.payment_made and invoice.refunded can each trigger a server-side conversion or correction.
- 4
Square payment links and online checkout
Cash App Pay can be switched on for payment links, Square Invoices, Square Online checkout and Virtual Terminal (through a payment link). Payment links can redirect to your own page afterward.
- 5
Square Online tracking tools
Fields for a Google Analytics ID, a Meta Pixel ID and custom code. Square doesn't say whether they fire after a Cash App Pay checkout, so we test it.
- 6
$cashtag payments in the Cash App app
We found no documented Pixel, Google Ads or webhook connection for these, so we confirm what your Cash App activity history shows and match from there.
Cash App for Business · diagnose
Where Cash App tracking breaks, in diagnostic order
Start with the $cashtag share: if a barber, braider or baker takes most ad-driven deposits that way, no checkout fix will bring that revenue back into the ad accounts.
- 01
Measure how much ad money arrives by $cashtag
If most deposits skip checkout, page tags can't fix it; lead matching can.
- 02
Check whether leads store a click ID at all
Open a recent booking request or form entry and look for the gclid or fbclid.
- 03
Run Cash App Pay on phone and desktop
Watch the QR scan and the app return, and count purchase events.
- 04
Look for the click ID on the Square payment
If it isn't on the order or payment, the server can't attribute it.
- 05
Check GA4's source for Cash App Pay orders
A sale credited to a referral or direct visit instead of the ad means the return trip broke attribution.

Cash App for Business · when not to buy
When you don't need this on Cash App
Plenty of Cash App businesses have nothing to fix yet.
- If you don't run paid ads and customers find your $cashtag on your Instagram bio or truck window, there's nothing to attribute.
- If nearly every payment comes from regulars and walk-ins, a retention view of your Cash App history tells you more than ad tracking would.
- If you sell only through Square Online and its Pixel already matches Square's Cash App Pay order count, leave it alone.

FAQ
Cash App for Business questions, answered
Not directly, because the payment happens in the Cash App app with no click ID attached. We capture the click when the lead books, match the Cash App payment back to that lead, and upload it as an offline conversion.
Square Online lets you add a Pixel ID, but Square doesn't say whether it fires after a Cash App Pay payment. We test it, then send the completed payment through the Conversions API with a matching event ID so Meta counts it once.
That's how Square's Cash App Pay works on desktop: the buyer scans the code and approves on their phone. On a phone, Cash App opens and sends them back to your site, and that round trip is where tracking breaks.
Square's Payments API records Cash App as a wallet payment and includes the buyer's $cashtag. That, plus the amount and time, is what we use to tie a payment to an ad lead.
Square says Cash App Pay isn't available with Square for Restaurants, isn't supported for offline payments, and is US only. If your truck runs on Square for Restaurants, any Cash App money from ad customers has to come by $cashtag, so that's the path we'd match.
