Your ads say people clicked your Linktree. Did anyone book?

Linktree's Meta Pixel reports two things: someone opened your linktr.ee page, and someone tapped a link. The appointment happens later, in your booking app, on a domain that Pixel never loads on. Point a campaign at that tap and Meta treats "Book now" as the win, then goes looking for more tappers. We follow the visitor past your Linktree to the real booking and send that back to Meta and Google Ads.

Linktree · what breaks

What goes wrong when ads run through Linktree

  1. 01

Meta thinks a link tap is a customer

Linktree's Pixel fires linkClick on every tap. Make that your ad goal and Meta finds people who tap, not people who sit in your chair.

  2. 02

Every ad visit turns into 'Linktree, social'

Linktree's UTM setting labels outbound traffic with Linktree as the source and social as the medium, so a paid Instagram visit and a free bio tap reach your booking page looking the same. You can't tell whether the ad money booked anyone.

  3. 03

The booking happens where nobody's watching

Lash fills, braid installs and bridal trials get booked in a separate scheduling app. If that app isn't tracked and never sees the ad's click ID, the campaign that paid for the client gets no credit, and the one that didn't may get the budget.

  4. 04

    Contact-form leads stay inside Linktree

Linktree stores contact-form inquiries in your Audience tab and can email you each one. Its help center describes no Pixel event for a submission, so a personal-chef or bridal inquiry never teaches your campaigns what a real lead looks like.

Linktree · the fix

What changes after the fix — Linktree

  • Campaigns optimize for bookings

Meta and Google Ads get an event when an appointment is booked or a deposit paid, so bidding learns from paying clients.

  • Paid and organic traffic split apart

Ad visits keep their own campaign labels through to your booking page, so paid results stop blending with free bio traffic.

  • A clear call on whether Linktree belongs in the ad path

Sometimes the honest fix is sending ads straight to your booking page. You get that call in writing, with the numbers.

Linktree · architecture

What Linktree actually lets you hook into

These come from Linktree's help center. The Pixel, Conversions API, Google Analytics and UTM settings are listed for Pro and Premium plans.

  1. 1

    Meta Pixel ID

Pasted under Settings > Analytics. Two documented events: PageView on each visit and linkClick on each tap, with the link's title and URL.

  2. 2

    Meta Conversions API access token

A field for a token generated in Events Manager. Linktree's only deduplication advice is to check Event Details in Events Manager, so that's where we confirm its browser and server copies count once.

  3. 3

    Google Analytics Measurement ID

A GA4 connection for Linktree visits. No event list, and no mention of Google Ads or Google Tag Manager.

  4. 4

    UTM parameters on outbound links

One source and medium for every link, campaign taken from the link title. Pass-through of incoming gclid or fbclid isn't documented, so we test it.

  5. 5

Form data to Google Sheets or email tools

Submissions can sync to Google Sheets, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Kit or Beehiiv. No documented webhook or public API for ad platforms.

Linktree · diagnose

Where Linktree tracking breaks, in the order we check

Start with the ad goal, because a campaign optimizing for linkClick wastes money even when every tag fires perfectly.

  1. 01

Which event the campaign optimizes for

If it's linkClick or a Linktree page view, that's the first fix.

  2. 02

Whether the Pixel fires on linktr.ee at all

Meta can block events until linktr.ee is on your traffic permissions allow list.

  3. 03

What survives the hop to your booking app

Click IDs and campaign tags, checked on a real test booking.

  4. 04

Whether Linktree's UTMs overwrite the ad's own tags

If every paid visit arrives as Linktree/social, reports can't separate ads from bio traffic.

  5. 05

Whether the booking app reports anything back

With no tag or offline import there, no booking reaches the ad account.

Linktree · prove

How we prove your Linktree path is tracked

Done on your live Linktree from a real ad-tagged visit on a phone, the way your Instagram and TikTok visitors arrive.

Source of truth

Your booking app's appointment list and payment records for the same dates, cross-checked with Linktree Insights link clicks

  • A test visit from an ad URL followed from linktr.ee to a confirmed test booking.
  • PageView and linkClick seen in Events Manager, and not set as the campaign goal.
  • The booked or paid event received once, browser and server sharing one event ID.
  • Campaign tags compared on arrival for one paid and one organic visit.
  • A contact-form test inquiry confirmed in Linktree Audience and the ad platform.
  • Bookings reconciled against Meta and Google Ads over a closed week, then again 30 days later.

Linktree · free audit

What we check in the free audit

  • Which event the campaign optimizes for
  • Whether the Pixel fires on linktr.ee at all
  • What survives the hop to your booking app
  • Whether Linktree's UTMs overwrite the ad's own tags
  • Whether the booking app reports anything back

Linktree · when not to buy

When you don't need us for Linktree

Plenty of beauty pros and food trucks use Linktree only as a bio link, and that's fine.

  • If you don't run paid ads, Linktree Insights tells you which links people tap, and that's enough.
  • If your ads already send people straight to your booking page and that page is tracked, the Linktree in your bio is organic traffic and doesn't need ad tracking.
  • If you're on Linktree's free plan and just want rough click counts, upgrading to add a Pixel still won't tell you who booked.
  • If your bookings come by DM and get confirmed by hand, start by logging them somewhere countable before paying anyone for tracking.

Linktree · what we deliver

The event map through Linktree

  • Linktree page viewed

Linktree's own PageView, kept as a top-of-funnel signal and never used as the ad goal.

  • Booking or shop link tapped

Linktree's linkClick on the links that matter, labeled by destination, as a leading indicator only.

  • Contact form submitted

Linktree's form has no documented Pixel event, so we route inquiries out through its Google Sheets sync (Pro and Premium) to the ad platforms as leads, and prove it with a real test inquiry.

  • Appointment booked

The main conversion, fired on your booking app or site, with the service and price attached where the app exposes them.

  • Deposit or product purchase paid

Its own value event for deposits, hair bundles or meal orders, kept apart from free bookings.

  • Excluded on purpose

Taps on your policies page, socials and reviews links. They tell you about interest, not revenue.

FAQ

Linktree questions, answered

Yes, on Pro and Premium plans, by pasting your Pixel ID under Settings > Analytics. It records page views and link taps on your Linktree, not the booking that follows on another site.
