How to track RFP submission to contract award for Reddit Ads

A procurement cycle runs six to eighteen months, involves a committee, and ends in a contract worth more than a year of most companies' other pipeline. Every default attribution window on every ad platform expires long before the award. On Reddit Ads the specifics that matter are the click identifier (the rdt_cid click identifier), the import mechanism (the Reddit Conversions API), and Reddit deduplicates on the conversion ID carried on both the pixel event and the server event. The chain only works end to end if the identifier is captured on landing and stored on the awarded contract in your CRM — no cookie survives the gap between ad click and award.

The problem

Where this funnel usually breaks

Reddit · RFP → award-specific issues
Leak #01

The attribution window expiring first

Ninety days is the generous end of platform windows. An eighteen-month procurement cycle means the platform has forgotten the click entirely by the time the contract is signed.

Leak #02

Downloads optimized because awards are too rare

Understandable and wrong. A handful of awards a year cannot train a bidding algorithm, but reporting on downloads instead means reporting on a number with no relationship to revenue.

Leak #03

Committee members counted as separate leads

Four people from one organization researching the same tender is one opportunity and four conversions if nobody deduplicates by account.

Specific to Reddit × RFP → award

Reddit and procurement: pseudonymous researchers, hard account joins

Capture rdt_cid server-side on landing and store it on the account record if a capability enquiry follows. Reddit's attribution windows are short and the award comes months later, so send only the capability enquiry through the Conversions API, and connect awards to Reddit in the CRM at account level where the identifier survived.

Reddit reaches the people who do procurement research rather than the people who sign: engineers, analysts and contracting specialists who discuss vendors and bid processes in professional communities. That is a legitimate audience for the first stage of a tender. The difficulty is that Reddit users browse under pseudonyms and often on personal devices, so the click and the later work-email enquiry frequently belong to identities nothing can join.

Run Reddit server-side only on capability pages; this audience blocks trackers often enough that a pixel adds little, and dropping it removes deduplication entirely. Ask for a work email on the capability download, store the rdt_cid against it, and roll it up to the organization so a later invitation to tender from a different contact at the same agency can be traced to the same account.

Expect the account-level match rate to be low and say so in reporting. A thread comparing contractors that shapes a shortlist months before a tender is real influence this funnel cannot capture, and judging Reddit only on matched awards will always undercount it.

Architecture

The exact event sequence

Five stages. Nothing breaks mechanically. The funnel simply outlives every attribution window, and the only fix is to store the identifier in your own system and send the conversion when it finally happens. The identifier has to survive all of them.

  1. Step 1

    Ad click

Often by a researcher on the committee rather than the decision maker.

  2. Step 2

    Capability enquiry or download

The first identifiable contact, and usually the last for several months.

  3. Step 3

    Invitation to tender

Months later. Frequently arrives by email to a general inbox.

  4. Step 4

    Submission

Weeks of work, no digital trace of the original click unless it was stored.

  5. Step 5

    Award

The conversion, at a contract value that dwarfs everything else in the account.

Diagnostic sequence

What's specific to Reddit Ads

The funnel logic above is the same wherever you advertise. These are the parts that change because it's Reddit Ads.

  1. 1

Click identifier: the rdt_cid click identifier

Reddit appends rdt_cid to your landing page URL, and the Reddit Pixel keeps its own identifier in the _rdt_uuid cookie. Reddit's audience is unusually privacy-aware — ad-blocker and tracker-blocker usage on Reddit traffic runs well above the web average — so the share of visits where the pixel never loads at all is higher here than on any other network in this list. The URL parameter is the identifier that survives; the cookie often does not.

  2. 2

    Import mechanism: the Conversions API

Server events posted to Reddit's Conversions API with the click identifier and hashed customer information. Reddit's implementation is younger than Meta's and its documentation moves — confirm the current endpoint, event names and required fields against Reddit's own developer docs rather than an integration blog post.

  3. 3

    Deduplication

The pixel and the Conversions API event must carry the same conversion identifier for the same action. Because so much Reddit traffic never runs the pixel at all, a lot of accounts skip the pixel entirely and send server-side only — which is a legitimate choice here in a way it rarely is elsewhere, and it removes the deduplication problem completely. Decide deliberately rather than running both and hoping.

  4. 4

    Window and timing

Reddit's default attribution windows are shorter than Meta's and are configurable. Check what your account is set to before reconciling anything, and verify the accepted event-freshness limit for server events against Reddit's current documentation.

  5. 5

    The Reddit gotcha

Reddit converts on a delay and on trust. People read a thread, leave, think about it, and come back through a branded search a week later — which is a genuine Reddit-driven conversion that Reddit will never be credited for and Google will happily claim. If Reddit is judged purely on last-click inside its own window, it will always look worse than it is. Build the measurement, then argue about attribution with that context on the table.

Source-of-truth validation

How to prove the chain works

One real journey, followed all the way, then a reconciliation. Neither on its own is enough.

Source of truthyour CRM opportunity record at award
  • A live Reddit ad clicked, and the identifier confirmed present on the landing URL.
  • The same identifier confirmed on the awarded contract in your CRM after a full real journey through every step.
  • Award confirmed arriving at Reddit Ads, verified by the events received and matched in Reddit Ads Manager, reconciled against your own records.
  • Your crm opportunity record at award reconciled against Reddit Ads per record over a fully closed window.
  • The same reconciliation repeated 30 days later.

Straight talk

When this doesn't apply to you

Worth checking before you build anything, because two of these are common and both mean the work isn't worth doing.

  • If you win one or two contracts a year, no amount of tracking will make a bidding algorithm useful. Report the pipeline accurately and bid manually.
  • If you are not running Reddit at meaningful spend, skip it. And if your Reddit strategy is organic community presence rather than ads, none of this applies — that traffic has no click identifier by definition.
  • If your cycle from click to award regularly exceeds the import window, the final event can't drive bidding whatever you build. Optimize toward account-level engagement, deduplicated, with awards reported separately instead and use the later data for budget decisions rather than for bidding.
  • If almost none of your awarded contracts carry a click identifier today, that's the whole project. Fix capture first — the import is the easy half and no tooling rescues a record with nothing to reference.

What you get

The implementation, on Reddit Ads

Item 01

Capture the rdt_cid click identifier on landing

Read rdt_cid from the landing URL and persist it server-side on first sight. Do not build on the pixel's cookie — on this audience specifically, assuming the pixel ran is the mistake.

Item 02

Persist it to the awarded contract in your CRM

Store the identifier on the account, not the contact, and not in a cookie. A cookie will not survive eighteen months and neither will the browser it was set in.

Item 03

Send award from the record

Your CRM at award, with the contract value, deduplicated to one conversion per organization rather than per contact. Dispatched to Reddit Ads through the Reddit Conversions API.

Item 04

Deduplicate and reverse

Reddit deduplicates on the conversion id carried on both the pixel event and the server event. Cancelled or rescoped contracts reverse against the original value.

Got questions?

The honestanswers.

No buzzwords, no upsell. If we don’t know, we say so.

01Can Reddit ads help win government or enterprise contracts?

They can reach the researchers who build shortlists, not the people who sign. Measure Reddit on qualified capability enquiries at account level rather than on awards.

02Should I run the Reddit pixel on procurement landing pages?

Server-side only is the cleaner choice. This audience blocks trackers heavily, and sending events only from the server avoids deduplication altogether.

03Why isn't capability enquiry or download enough to optimize on?

Because downloads and awards are separated by a year and a committee, and the download rate says nothing about whether an organization will actually buy.

04How does the identifier survive to award?

It doesn't, as a cookie — the gap is too long. It has to be written onto the awarded contract in your CRM at the point of ad click, where it lives as a field rather than as browser storage.

05What does Reddit Ads need to accept the conversion?

An event name Reddit recognizes, a conversion identifier matched to the pixel if you are also running one, a timestamp, hashed customer information, and the click identifier where you have it.

06How long does this take to build?

Two to four days for the implementation, plus a closed reconciliation window before we'd call it verified. Capture and persistence are the fiddly parts; the import itself is usually an afternoon.

07Can I do this myself?

Yes, and the reference pages on this site cover the mechanics. The part that's genuinely tedious rather than clever is keeping the rdt_cid click identifier alive through multi-step forms and a sales cycle measured in quarters, which fails silently at every stage.
