Conversion tracking for Timely salon and spa bookings
Timely documents more tracking than most salon software: a GA4 Measurement ID field with Simple or Full step tracking, a GTM setup driven by a virtualPageURL dataLayer variable, and a guide to firing a Meta Purchase through custom HTML. It is just as clear about the limits. There is no unique confirmation URL, Google Ads is not supported natively, and bookings that start from Instagram's Book Now button or Reserve with Google never touch your tags at all.

Timely · what breaks
What goes wrong on Timely
- 01
No confirmation page to target
A tag set on a thank-you URL never fires, because Timely doesn't produce one.
- 02
Book Now and Reserve with Google bookings unattributed
They complete inside Instagram, Facebook or Google, not on your booking page.
- 03
Google Ads left guessing
With no native integration, many salons simply have no booking conversion in Google Ads.
- 04
Regulars rebooking from ads
A client who comes in every few weeks clicks a branded ad and gets counted as new.
Timely · the fix
What changes — Timely
One booking event from the right virtual pageview
Fired on the completion step, with the service value.
Google Ads receiving bookings
Through a GA4 import or server-side, since Timely has no direct route.
New clients separated from regulars
Using Timely's client history.
Timely · architecture
What Timely actually lets you do
Timely documents its tracking openly, including what it does not support.
- 1
Native GA4 with Simple or Full step tracking
Paste a Measurement ID; Full tracking reports each booking step.
- 2
GTM with a virtualPageURL dataLayer variable
A VirtualPageview trigger stands in for the confirmation page that doesn't exist.
- 3
Meta Pixel Purchase through custom HTML in GTM
Documented by Timely, fired on the completion step.
- 4
Cross-domain guidance
For keeping sessions joined between your site and Timely's booking pages.
- 5
No unique confirmation URL and no Google Ads support
Google Ads bookings have to come through GA4 or a server container.
Timely · diagnose
Where Timely tracking goes wrong, step by step
Timely's documented setup works when it is built exactly as written; these checks find where it drifted.
- 01
Check what triggers the booking conversion
If it is a page URL, it never fires. It has to be the completion virtual pageview.
- 02
Check for GA4 firing twice
The native Measurement ID and a GA4 tag in GTM together double every booking.
- 03
Check whether Google Ads has any booking conversion
Often it has none, and bidding runs on clicks.
- 04
Count Book Now and Reserve with Google bookings
If they are a large share, browser tracking will always undercount.
- 05
Check new against returning clients
Regulars rebooking inflate branded and retargeting campaigns.

Source of truth
Timely's appointment records — attended appointments by date, with service and new-or-returning client status
- A booking completed through the widget, with the completion virtual pageview and conversion confirmed in GTM.
- GA4 confirmed to record each booking once, not twice.
- Google Ads confirmed receiving bookings through the chosen route.
- Meta Purchase confirmed with the service value and deduplicated against the server event.
- Visits that actually happened matched one by one to each platform's conversions.
- Returning clients confirmed excluded from acquisition.
- Rechecked a month later and after any update to Timely's booking pages.

Timely · when not to buy
When a Timely salon doesn't need this
Timely's own setup is good enough for a lot of salons. Here is when.
- If you run Meta only, the documented GTM Purchase on the completion step fires once with value on a test booking, and most clients are new, keep what Timely gives you.
- If most bookings arrive through Reserve with Google or Instagram Book Now, browser tracking won't fix that; your records will, or nothing will.
- If your chairs are full of regulars, spend on rebooking and retention reporting, not acquisition tracking.
- Thanks to Timely's documentation this is one of the more straightforward builds we do, and we will tell you if you can do it yourself.

FAQ
Timely questions, answered
Timely has no unique confirmation URL. The completion step is a virtual pageview pushed to the dataLayer, and the trigger has to listen for that.
Not through a native integration, because Timely doesn't offer one. Import the GA4 booking event or send it from a server container.
One or the other. Using both counts every booking twice in GA4.
Not by your tags; those bookings complete outside your booking page. They can be matched from Timely's records afterward.
Visits. No-shows and late cancellations differ by campaign, and Timely records which appointments actually happened.
