Hospitable Direct: tracking the booking, not just the visit

Hospitable Direct pushes a full ecommerce sequence to Google, from view_item through purchase, with value, property, dates and guest count attached. Its Meta Pixel field, though, sends PageView only, so Meta sees visitors and never a single booking. If your site is self-hosted, checkout happens on booking.hospitable.com, which adds a domain hop on top.

The problem

What Hospitable's defaults leave out

Hospitable (Direct)-specific issues
Leak #01

Meta optimizing on page views

The native pixel fires PageView and nothing else, so Meta campaigns are blind to bookings.

Leak #02

booking.hospitable.com on a self-hosted site

Without cross-domain tracking the guest arrives at checkout as a stranger.

Leak #03

The Google tag and GTM both firing purchase

Hospitable accepts both IDs. Fill in both carelessly and Google counts twice.

Leak #04

Dates and guests discarded

The purchase carries them; most setups throw them away instead of using them for value.

Architecture

What Hospitable actually lets you do

From Hospitable's direct booking analytics documentation.

  1. Step 1

Marketing tab fields for Google, GTM and Meta

A Google tag (GT-, G- or AW-), a GTM container ID and a Meta Pixel ID.

  2. Step 2

    Automatic ecommerce events

    view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout, add_payment_info and purchase.

  3. Step 3

    Purchase details

Value, currency, property, dates and guest count on the event.

  4. Step 4

A Meta Pixel that sends PageView only

Stated by Hospitable. Meta conversions have to come from somewhere else.

  5. Step 5

Checkout on booking.hospitable.com for self-hosted sites

Which is why cross-domain setup is required there.

Diagnostic sequence

Diagnosing Hospitable Direct

Five checks, each one cheap. Most sites fail the first.

  1. 1

Look at Meta Events Manager for any Purchase

If there are none, the native pixel is the whole Meta setup.

  2. 2

    Count Google purchases against reservations

More purchases than bookings means the Google tag and GTM are both live.

  3. 3

    Book through a self-hosted site

Watch whether the session survives booking.hospitable.com.

  4. 4

    Inspect the purchase payload

Confirm value, dates and guests are populated before building on them.

  5. 5

Check the AW- conversion is not duplicating a GA4 import

Pick one source for Google Ads.

Source-of-truth validation

Proof on Hospitable

We place a booking with dates and guests you choose, then look for those exact details downstream.

Source of truthHospitable direct reservations with property, dates, guests and total
  • A live booking appearing as a Meta Purchase, with the same event ID as the Google conversion.
  • Google purchases equal to reservations, not double.
  • Self-hosted bookings traced across booking.hospitable.com with source intact.
  • Value, dates and guests matched to the reservation.
  • Cancellations confirmed reversed.
  • Reconciled per reservation over a closed window, and again in 30 days.

Straight talk

When Hospitable's native setup is fine

Hospitable's Google side is solid. These are the cases where it is enough.

  • If you run Google Ads only and have a single Google path configured, the native purchase event may be all you need.
  • If you do not advertise on Meta, the PageView-only pixel stops being a problem.
  • If you use the Hospitable-hosted site rather than self-hosting, there is no booking.hospitable.com hop to fix.
  • If direct bookings are rare, spend the money on getting more of them first.

Who this is for

Honest about who we’re a fit for.

We don’t take every project. Here’s how to tell if we’re right for you.

Good fit

You’re a great fit if…

  • You run Hospitable (Direct) (or are migrating to it)
  • You spend $5K+/month on paid ads (Meta, Google, TikTok, Microsoft, LinkedIn)
  • Your reported ROAS doesn’t match what your bank account is saying
  • You want to own your tracking stack — no monthly SaaS fees forever
  • You have 2–4 days to do this once and never think about it again
Not a fit

Skip us if…

  • You spend less than $500/month on paid ads (browser pixel is fine)
  • You want a SaaS dashboard with monthly fees forever (Triple Whale, Hyros)
  • You need attribution modeling — we fix the data foundation, not multi-touch reports
  • You want a 6-month enterprise consulting engagement (we ship in 4 days)
  • You expect us to manage your ad accounts (we don’t — that’s a different service)

If you’re still unsure, book the call anyway— we’ll tell you straight whether we can help.

Got questions?

The honestanswers.

No buzzwords, no upsell. If we don’t know, we say so.

01Meta reports zero bookings. Is something broken?

Hospitable's Meta Pixel sends PageView only. Purchases have to be sent another way, which we do from the purchase event through a server container.

02Should I use the Google tag field or GTM?

One of them for each destination, not both. Using both is the most common cause of double-counted bookings on Hospitable.

03What value does the purchase carry?

Hospitable documents value and currency, plus property, dates and guests. We check it against the reservation total before sending it anywhere.

04My site is self-hosted. What extra work is there?

Checkout runs on booking.hospitable.com, so cross-domain tracking has to be configured and tested with a live booking.

05Can I use the guest count and dates?

Yes. They help separate high-value stays from short ones and are useful for value rules and audiences.
