Meta and GA4 disagree with your Gift Up! sales? Count every gift card once

You switched on Gift Up!'s Meta, Google Ads and Google Analytics cards, and now Meta, GA4 and your Gift Up! orders report all disagree. The checkout loads from Gift Up!'s servers, so your site tags only see an order if someone wires up Gift Up!'s conversion callback. We give each sale one owner per platform, attach the price paid, and back it up with Gift Up!'s signed order webhooks.

Gift Up! · what breaks

What goes wrong with Gift Up! tracking

  1. 01

Meta reports more gift card sales than we made

Gift Up!'s Meta card sends a Purchase for every gift card sold. Add a site Pixel or a GTM Purchase tag and one $100 card counts twice, so Meta's bidding chases buyers who never existed.

  2. 02

Google Ads gets a conversion but not the amount

The native card asks only for a Conversion ID and Label, and Gift Up!'s help doesn't say whether the order value goes along. A $25 card and a $300 spa package then look the same to Smart Bidding.

  3. 03

Holiday buyers vanish in the frame

The drop-in checkout loads from cdn.yourgift.cards, where ad blockers and consent banners can stop browser tags. Every order that slips through in December or Mother's Day week is a sale your gift card ads earned that Google and Meta never learn from.

  4. 04

    Redemptions look like new customers

A recipient spending the card at your counter through Square or Shopify POS isn't new revenue from an ad. Counted as a purchase, it makes return on ad spend look better than it is.

Gift Up! · the fix

What changes after we fix it — Gift Up!

  • One purchase per Gift Up! order, everywhere

Browser and server events share Gift Up!'s order ID, so Meta and Google drop the duplicate.

  • The price paid, not the face value

Each conversion carries what the buyer paid, so sale-priced or bonus cards don't inflate revenue.

  • Ads judged on gift card sales, not on redemptions

Redemptions go to retention reporting, so campaigns only get credit for money they brought in.

Gift Up! · architecture

What Gift Up! actually lets you hook into

Gift Up! documents native ad cards, a JavaScript conversion callback and signed webhooks. The catch is that the native cards and your own tags can report the same sale.

  1. 1

    Native ad and analytics cards

A Meta Pixel ID, Google Ads Conversion ID and Label, or GA4 Measurement ID makes Gift Up! send a conversion for each gift card sold. Conversions API isn't documented.

  2. 2

Conversion callback on the drop-in checkout

giftup("conversion") gives your page the order ID, revenue, currency and each card's SKU and price, ready for the GTM dataLayer.

  3. 3

    Signed webhooks

Order created, Gift card created, updated and redeemed, each HMAC-signed. We confirm the payload carries the callback's order ID.

  4. 4

    REST API and Zapier

Good for order checks and staff alerts. Gift Up! doesn't document either one for sending ad conversions.

  5. 5

    Hosted checkout link

A giftup.app/place-order page where your GTM can't run, so we test what reaches each platform before ads point there.

Gift Up! · diagnose

Where Gift Up! tracking breaks, in the order we check

Gift Up! tracking usually over-counts before it under-counts, so we look for overlaps first.

  1. 01

Count the Purchase events from one test order

Gift Up!'s Meta card, a site Pixel and a GTM tag can all fire. We also buy two cards in one order, since Gift Up! documents a Purchase per card sold.

  2. 02

Check what value reaches Google Ads

The native card's docs don't say, so we read it off a test conversion in Google Ads.

  3. 03

Confirm the click ID survives into the conversion

Order from a gclid- and fbclid-tagged URL and see which click gets credit.

  4. 04

    Look for hosted-link traffic

If your email or Instagram buttons point to giftup.app, those buyers never touch your site or your tags.

  5. 05

    Check how redemptions are reported

POS redemptions must never appear as ad-driven purchases.

Gift Up! · when not to buy

When you don't need us for Gift Up!

Plenty of Gift Up! sellers are fine with the built-in cards.

  • If Meta is your only ad channel, Gift Up!'s Meta card is the one thing firing a Purchase, and its count agrees with your orders report, keep it as is.
  • If you don't advertise gift cards at all and they sell through word of mouth or the counter, ad tracking won't tell you much.
  • If the whole problem is your website builder's Pixel doubling Gift Up!'s Meta card, switching one off is a quick settings change, and we'll point you to the right one.
  • If gift cards are a sliver of revenue next to bookings, fix booking tracking first.

FAQ

Gift Up! questions, answered

Yes. Paste your Meta Pixel ID or Google Ads Conversion ID and Label into its integrations page and it reports each gift card sold. Its help pages don't mention Meta's Conversions API, so treat it as browser-side until a test order proves otherwise.
