SmartAdvocate shows which intakes signed. Google Ads never hears about it.
Your intake team works every call through the SmartAdvocate Intake Wizard, and each case signs, gets turned down or gets referred out. Google Ads and Meta only saw the phone ring, so they keep buying more of whatever rang. We store the ad click on each intake and send signed retainers back, so personal injury, mass tort and workers' comp campaigns bid on clients.

SmartAdvocate · what breaks
What goes wrong with SmartAdvocate and paid ads
- 01
Google counts calls, SmartAdvocate counts signed cases
Your ads optimize toward anyone who dialed, including wrong case types and people who already have a lawyer, so cost per signed case climbs.
- 02
The marketing source says "Internet"
The Intake Wizard records how a client found you, but that comes from what the caller says or what staff select. "Google" could be a search ad, Local Services, the map listing or organic, so budget moves between campaigns on a guess.
- 03
The click is gone before the intake exists
Intakes arrive from calls, chat, answering services, the after-hours AI voice agent, Intaker or a Lawmatics sync. Unless someone carries the GCLID across, it never reaches the SmartAdvocate record, and Google can't tie a signed case to the ad that paid for it.
- 04
Rejected and referred intakes look like wins
A mass tort claimant who fails the criteria and a case you referred out both counted as conversions, so your budget chases the claimants you turn away.
SmartAdvocate · the fix
What changes after we fix it — SmartAdvocate
Signed retainers become the conversion
Google Ads and Meta learn from intakes that turned into clients in SmartAdvocate, not from rings and form fills.
Source comes from the click, not memory
The intake carries the campaign and click ID that brought the caller in, so SmartAdvocate's campaign reports agree with the ad accounts.
Case type sets the value
A nursing home abuse signing and a minor fender-bender get different values, so bidding favors the case types your firm actually wants.
SmartAdvocate · architecture
What SmartAdvocate actually gives you to work with
From SmartAdvocate's own site and partner list. Anything it doesn't document is a check, not a claim.
- 1
Intake Wizard with forms per case type
Custom intake forms by case type, from car accidents to defective drugs. We confirm a custom field can hold the click ID on each form.
- 2
Source and campaign reporting
SmartAdvocate tracks where clients came from and reports campaign ROI, but only from what lands in its source fields.
- 3
Partners that create intakes
Its list includes Intaker, Lawmatics, CallRail, CallTrackingMetrics, answering services and web chat. Lawmatics pushes matters and custom fields into SmartAdvocate when a lead converts; whether click data rides along is checked per partner.
- 4
No ad-platform connection
Its partner directory lists no Google Ads, GA4, Tag Manager or Meta connection.
- 5
Getting signed status out
Zapier is on its partner list and SmartAdvocate builds custom integrations, so we confirm what your deployment exposes (a Zapier trigger, database reads or a scheduled report) and send through Google's Data Manager API and Meta's Conversions API.
SmartAdvocate · diagnose
Where SmartAdvocate tracking breaks, in the order we check
Start with the intake record itself. If the click isn't on it, nothing downstream can be fixed.
- 01
Open an intake created from a tagged test call and form
Look for a click ID on the record, not just a source picklist value.
- 02
List the marketing source values your staff choose from
Vague options like "Internet" or "TV/Web" hide which channel paid for the case.
- 03
Check what Intaker, Lawmatics or your answering service passes in
Lawmatics passes custom fields into SmartAdvocate; whether a click ID is among them gets checked on a real record before anyone relies on it.
- 04
Compare signed intakes with reported conversions
Per intake, over a closed month, for Google Ads and Meta separately.
- 05
Confirm how turn-downs and referrals out are marked
Those statuses decide what never gets sent as a conversion.

The QA evidence — SmartAdvocate
Run on real intakes created through your live phone lines and website, then worked through SmartAdvocate the way your intake team normally does.
Source of truth
SmartAdvocate intake records: signed intakes by signed date, with case type, marketing source and the stored click ID
- A tagged test call and form, each with the click ID confirmed on the SmartAdvocate intake.
- An intake from each partner channel checked the same way.
- One Google Ads conversion and one Meta event per signed intake, deduplicated on a shared event ID.
- A rejected intake and a referral out confirmed absent from both ad platforms.
- Signed intakes matched record by record against each platform over a closed window.
- Repeated 30 days later and after any change to intake forms or partners.

SmartAdvocate · when not to buy
When you don't need this on SmartAdvocate
Some firms on SmartAdvocate get more from a reporting cleanup than a tracking build.
- If your cases come from referrals, TV and billboards and you don't run Google Ads or Meta, just tighten the source picklist.
- If you buy mass tort claimants from lead vendors at a fixed price per lead, the vendor runs the ads, and attribution isn't yours to fix.
- If your intake lives in Lawmatics and SmartAdvocate only receives signed matters, the conversion belongs on the Lawmatics side, and we'll tell you so.
- If you sign only a handful of ad-driven cases a month, start by sending qualified intakes before relying on signed ones.

FAQ
SmartAdvocate questions, answered
Not that SmartAdvocate documents. Its partner list covers intake, call tracking, chat and eSignature tools, with no Google Ads, GA4 or Meta connection, so signed cases have to be sent back through a separate path.
It shows which source your staff recorded. It can't tell Google or Meta which click produced a signed case, so their bidding keeps chasing calls.
Sometimes. CallRail is a listed partner, but whether the GCLID reaches the intake depends on setup, so we test with a tagged call first.
Meta asks you to store its lead ID and upload stage changes at least daily. We put that ID, or hashed phone and email, on the intake and send the signed stage back.
No injury details or case facts. Only the event, date, value and hashed contact details go out.
They stay out of the conversion. If volume is low, qualified claimants go as a secondary signal.
