Local Services Ads for landscapers: mow requests, spring missed calls and cost per sold project
Local Services Ads can fill a landscaper's spring calendar, but one lead fee buys a yard renovation or a one-time mow far off your route. It pays when job types and ZIP codes match what you sell, calls are answered while crews work, and each lead is matched by phone and time to a sold project in Jobber or LMN.

Symptoms
What LSA problems look like for landscapers
- 01
LSA charged you for a full inbox of spring leads. Your designer sold a few patios out of them, and most of the rest wanted a quote for weekly mowing.
What it costs
Judged on cost per lead, the listing looks cheapest in exactly the weeks it sends the most mow-only callers, so the spring budget grows toward the requests your crews were never going to sell.
What’s happening
LSA charges when the homeowner contacts you, and the fee does not change with the size of the job. A caller asking what you charge per cut and a caller with a sloped backyard and a budget for a retaining wall are the same lead to Google. Nothing in the LSA inbox knows which one turned into a signed estimate.
- 02
You keep paying for calls about tree removal, irrigation repair and snow plowing that you pass to someone else.
What it costs
Every adjacent trade left switched on is a lead fee spent on a referral. The fix is in the profile before spring, not in a dispute after the invoice.
What’s happening
Google no longer credits leads for job types you do not service. If a job type is switched on in your profile, a call for it is a valid charged lead, whether or not your crew does that work.
- 03
Leads come in from subdivisions well past your last route stop, for a single cleanup.
What it costs
You either decline calls you paid for or send a crew and a trailer across town for a job that cannot cover the drive.
What’s happening
The service area you set decides which homeowners can see you, and Google no longer credits leads from areas you do not serve. Landscaping profit depends on route density, and a broad county-wide area treats a far-off cleanup the same as a job next to a maintenance client.
- 04
In April the LSA inbox shows missed calls you were charged for, all from hours when you were on a mower or running a skid steer.
What it costs
You pay for the busiest weeks' callers without speaking to them, and the ranking slides in the same weeks demand peaks, while the landscaper whose office picks up gets the next caller.
What’s happening
A missed call during business hours is charged once the caller stays on the line past 20 seconds, and missed calls can lower your ranking. In landscaping the owner is often the person who answers the phone and also the person on the equipment.
The goal
What a fixed LSA account looks like for landscapers
- Every charged LSA lead has an outcome in the job system: site visit, estimate, sold, or a recorded reason it went nowhere, matched by phone number and call time.
- Cost per sold project and per maintenance agreement from LSA, next to Search, judged over the season rather than by week.
- Mowing, tree work, irrigation and snow switched off unless you sell them, so the inbox holds the work you actually do.
- Service area set to the ZIP codes your routes cover, and spring missed-call counts reviewed every week with the office.
Eligibility
What Google checks before landscapers can run LSA
- 1Owner and business background checks, which Google applies to selected businesses in the Landscaping services category.
- 2A state-level business license and owner license where local law requires them. Rules for landscape contractors differ by state, and work such as irrigation or pesticide and fertilizer application can be licensed separately, so check your state before you switch those job types on.
- 3Proof of general liability insurance, applied to selected businesses.
- 4A business registration check and a business representative check for selected businesses, plus a public, verified Business Profile, which every LSA advertiser needs.

Job types
LSA job types for landscapers: what to switch on, what quietly costs money
Switch on
Landscape design and installation
The work that can justify a per-lead fee: planting plans, bed rebuilds and full yard makeovers. Keep it on, and judge it on sold projects over the season, not on the week the lead arrived.
Hardscaping: patios, walkways and retaining walls, if your crew builds them
High-ticket and usually researched, but homeowners who call from the listing often already have photos and a rough budget. A site visit for a wall is worth far more than a cleanup quote.
Drainage and grading
A homeowner with water pooling against the foundation after a storm has a problem this week. These callers tend to book a site visit quickly, and the fix often leads to planting or hardscape work.
Sod installation and lawn renovation
Quick to quote from photos and tied to the install season. Keep it on during the weeks your crews can lay sod; switch it off when the schedule fills.
Spring and fall cleanups, if they feed your maintenance routes
Low tickets on their own. Worth keeping only inside your route ZIP codes, where a cleanup customer can become a season-long maintenance client.
Switch off, or check first
Weekly mowing, if you are a design-build company
Mow-only callers compare per-cut prices and are better served by a lawn care company. Lawn care has its own LSA category, and every mowing call on your landscaping profile costs a full lead fee.
Tree removal and large tree work you sub out
A separate trade with its own equipment and insurance. A charged lead you hand to an arborist earns you a favor at best, and Google does not credit job types left switched on.
Irrigation repair, unless you hold any license your state requires and stock the parts
Sprinkler repair calls are frequent in spring and need a technician with parts on the truck. A lead you cannot legally or practically take is still charged.
Snow removal, unless you staff and insure for it
Winter leads arrive in bursts overnight. If your crews are off for the season, each one is a charge for a call nobody can serve.
Bad leads
What a bad LSA lead looks like for landscapers
A homeowner who wants a free design drawing to install the plants themselves or hand to a cheaper crew.
Valid to Google. Record it as a site visit that did not sell, with the reason. If design-only requests cluster, ask about budget and timeline at intake before you book the designer's time.
A renter asking for weeding or a tidy-up before move-out.
Rarely a client for a landscaper and never a project. Note the reason, and if these callers keep coming, look at which job type or ZIP codes they arrive through.
A nursery, sod farm, equipment dealer or lead seller calling the number on the listing.
Rate it as low quality in the LSA inbox. Google can credit low-quality leads automatically after review.
A property manager asking you to bid on maintenance for several commercial sites.
A bid process that a per-lead listing was never meant to feed. Route it to whoever runs commercial bids and record it apart from residential leads so it does not distort cost per sold project.
An existing maintenance client calling through the listing to add a bed or move a service day.
Google does not charge again for contact from the same number within 15 days; after that it is a new charged lead. Put your office number on invoices and route-day texts so clients stop finding you through the listing.
Ranking
What moves your LSA position as one of the landscapers in the auction
- 01
Answering while crews are out
Missed calls can lower your ranking. A landscaper's phone rings hardest on spring weekdays, when the owner is on a job site, so an answering service or a dedicated office line during those weeks protects the listing.
- 02
Reviews
Rating and number of reviews count toward profile quality. Ask at the final walkthrough of an install, while the homeowner is standing on the new patio, rather than in an email after the invoice.
- 03
Photos of your own work
Google lists high-quality images in profile quality. Before-and-after shots of your installs show the work homeowners are hiring for; stock photos of lawns do not.
- 04
Message leads
Homeowners often send a message with yard photos in the evening. Turn messages on only if someone replies first thing in the morning; an unread message with photos is a paid lead you lost.
- 05
Budget pacing in spring
Google recommends Maximize Leads. In peak weeks a budget that runs out early takes you out of the afternoon and evening, when homeowners who work all day finally call about the yard.

How we work
Getting LSA leads into Jobber, LMN or Service Autopilot
- 1
What to record
A lead source of Google LSA on the request or client record, separate from Google Business Profile, with the caller's phone number, carried through to the quote and the job.
- 2
How to match
Match each charged lead to a client by phone number and call time, within a window you agree in advance, using the lead list from the LSA inbox or the Google Ads API. Then follow the client through request, site visit, estimate and sold job. Jobber's LSA integration covers bookings only and does not separate LSA from other Google sources by itself, and LMN has no website lead form, so LSA leads are keyed in by hand and the source has to be set at that moment.
- 3
Lead feedback
Rate unusable leads in the LSA inbox, and keep the outcome and the reason on the client record. The job system is where a landscaping sale is actually won; the inbox rating is the part Google sees.
- 4
Monthly check
Monthly for lead quality, seasonally for sales: compare spring LSA leads with the projects they sold by midsummer, by job type. Keep maintenance agreements on their own row, valued for the season rather than the first visit, so a cleanup that became a route client is not counted as a small job.
No accuracy guarantee here: we report the share of LSA leads for landscapers matched to jobs, and the share we could not match.
Channel split
LSA, Search ads and the Business Profile for landscapers
Most landscaping is planned work, so LSA and Search play different roles. LSA's call-now format suits drainage fixes, sod and cleanups inside your route, where the homeowner wants someone to come and look this week. Design-build buyers research: they look at portfolios, compare several landscapers and often fill in a form late at night. Search ads for patio, retaining wall and landscape design searches let you send them to a page with your own projects and a form that asks for budget. Brand searches are where LSA and Search overlap most: a neighbor who saw your yard sign searches your company name and calls through the LSA listing, and you pay a lead fee for a homeowner who already knew you.
- Local Services Ads
- Drainage, sod and cleanup calls in your route ZIP codes during the install season, judged on sold jobs and maintenance agreements.
- Search ads
- Design-build and hardscape searches, sent to project pages with a budget question on the form, with sold projects imported against the click.
- Business Profile
- Project photos and reviews every homeowner checks in spring. Track its calls on their own so the profile is not credited to LSA.
- Houzz, Angi, GreenPal
- Houzz leads stay inside Houzz and GreenPal books mowing on its own platform, so record them as their own sources and judge each on sold work from your job system.
Google Business Profile
The Business Profile side for landscapers
- Primary category
- Landscaper
- Secondary
- Landscape designer
- Suspension risk
- Moderate, higher for home-based owners. Many landscapers run the business from home with equipment parked in a yard or a rented lot, and that is where verification and address problems start. A business name padded with 'Landscaping and Lawn Care Near Me', a second profile for a mowing brand at the same address, or a category that does not match the business all invite a review. Use Landscape architect only if a licensed landscape architect is on staff.
- Address
- Most landscapers should run a service-area profile with the address hidden and the area set to the cities or ZIP codes their routes cover. A garden center or design studio with signage and staffed hours can show its address.
Honest fit check
When LSA is not worth it for landscapers
- Your install calendar is full for the season. A homeowner with water in the basement will not wait, and a lead you cannot schedule is still charged.
- Most of your revenue is commercial grounds maintenance won through bids. LSA callers are homeowners with a yard project, not facility managers.
- You run a mowing route priced per cut. A per-lead fee on a low-ticket weekly service only pays if you know how long those clients stay, and the Lawn care services category, not Landscaping services, is where those callers search.
FAQ
Questions landscapers ask about Local Services Ads
Is Local Services Ads worth it for landscapers?
For drainage, sod and cleanup work inside your routes, often yes. For design-build projects it is one source among several. Judge it on sold projects and maintenance agreements from your job system over a full season, never on cost per lead in April.
Should a landscaper sign up under Landscaping services or Lawn care services?
Google lists them as separate categories. Choose the one that describes the work you want calls for. A design-build company on Lawn care services will hear from mow-only callers, and a mowing route on Landscaping services will pay for project inquiries it cannot price.
Can I get credit for a mowing or tree removal call I do not take?
Not for job type or location any more. Google no longer credits leads for job types or areas you do not service, so switch those job types off and trim the ZIP codes before spring. Genuinely low-quality leads, such as supplier sales calls, can be credited automatically; rate them in the inbox.
How do I track LSA leads in Jobber or LMN?
Set a lead source of Google LSA, separate from your Business Profile, when the request or client is created, keep the caller's number on the record, and match the LSA lead list to clients by phone number and call time each month. With no click ID this is a match rather than an import, and we report it as a matched share rather than an accuracy guarantee.
Is my landscaping LSA account moving into Google Ads?
Google's transition page names lawn care among the categories in the first phase, starting in August 2026; landscaping is not named, so watch for the advance email to your account admin. LSA performance reports do not transfer, so download them before your account moves.
What does Google check before a landscaper can run LSA?
For Landscaping services, Google lists owner and business background checks, state-level business and owner licenses where local law requires them, general liability insurance, and business registration checks, mostly for selected businesses. Approved advertisers get the Google Verified badge.
