Local Services Ads for flooring contractors: measure appointments, install-only callers and cost per signed install
Local Services Ads can fill a flooring company's measure calendar, but a measure is not a sale. LSA pays off when the job types match the floors you install, install-only and price-per-foot callers are recorded, and every lead is followed to a signed estimate in Estimate Rocket, Jobber or Housecall Pro, matched by phone number and time.

Symptoms
What LSA problems look like for flooring contractors
- 01
LSA shows a steady stream of leads. Your estimator's calendar is full of in-home measures, and the signed-estimate pile has barely grown.
What it costs
You judge the listing on cost per lead, so it drifts toward whoever calls most easily, while each measure costs an estimator's afternoon and a drive. A lead that never signs costs you twice: the lead fee and the estimator's time.
What’s happening
LSA charges when the homeowner contacts you. In flooring the sale happens later: a measure at the house, a quote by the square foot, samples on the kitchen table, a decision once the spouse has seen them, then an install date. LSA sees the first call and nothing after it.
- 02
Half the callers bought their vinyl plank at a big-box store and want a price to lay it this weekend.
What it costs
If your margin lives in material and you only install what you sell, every install-only call is a charged lead that cannot become the job you want. If you do take labor-only work, these calls set a lower average ticket that hides inside the LSA total.
What’s happening
Labor-only installation is a real job type to the homeowner and a valid lead to Google if your installation job types are switched on. Nothing in LSA separates a homeowner who wants your material, your crew and your warranty from one who wants a crew for material you have never seen.
- 03
Somebody tells you they found you on Google, walks into the showroom, picks a hardwood and pays at the counter. No report anywhere connects that sale to LSA.
What it costs
LSA looks weaker than it is for showroom-led stores, and stronger than it is for install crews whose calls never turn into measures. Either way the budget is set on a guess.
What’s happening
A flooring store sells two ways at once. The LSA call asks for your hours or directions, and the sale happens days later at the counter or on a showroom quote. The counter sale is rung up in the store's point-of-sale system under the customer's name, with no lead source, so it never meets the lead in the LSA inbox.
- 04
You are paying for calls about carpet cleaning, garage floor coatings and water-damaged subfloors your crews do not touch.
What it costs
A steady charge for calls you refer elsewhere, with no dispute path to get it back. The fix is in the job type settings, not in the lead inbox.
What’s happening
The job types switched on in the profile decide what counts as a valid lead, and Google no longer credits leads for job types you do not service. If adjacent work is switched on, those calls are billable even though your crew never quotes them.
The goal
What a fixed LSA account looks like for flooring contractors
- Every charged LSA lead has an outcome: no measure, measured, estimate sent, signed, installed, with the reason recorded when it stops.
- Cost per signed install and average job value by floor type, for LSA and Search side by side, from your own system rather than from either ad dashboard.
- Install-only callers counted as their own row, so you know whether vinyl and laminate leads are worth their price.
- Cleaning, coating and water-damage job types switched off if you refer that work, so you stop paying full price for referrals.
- Counter sales that match an LSA caller's phone number added to the monthly report, so a showroom sees what the listing brings in.
Eligibility
What Google checks before flooring contractors can run LSA
- 1Owner and business background checks, which Google applies to selected flooring businesses. Flooring is not one of the urgent categories that add screening for each installer, so your crews are not screened one by one the way an HVAC technician is.
- 2A state-level business license and an owner license where local law requires them. Many states license flooring under a general or specialty contractor class and some do not license it at all, so check the rule for every state you install in before you apply.
- 3Proof of general liability insurance, for selected businesses. Keep the certificate current, because a lapsed certificate can pause the listing in the middle of your busiest weeks.
- 4A business registration check and a check of the business representative, both for selected businesses. The legal name on your license, insurance certificate and Business Profile should match, which matters for stores that trade under a different name from the installation company.

Job types
LSA job types for flooring contractors: what to switch on, what quietly costs money
Switch on
Hardwood floor installation
One of the larger tickets in flooring, and the caller usually wants the full job: material, subfloor prep and installation. Keep it on if your crews install solid and engineered hardwood and you can get to the house to measure within a few days.
Vinyl plank and laminate installation
The volume end of residential flooring. Keep it on, but listen to the first calls each month: this is the job type that attracts most install-only callers with their own material, so record that reason every time it happens.
Hardwood refinishing
A sand-and-finish job that books faster than a new floor and often leads to stair, trim or adjoining-room work. Worth having on if you own the sanding equipment and dust containment, and judged separately because the ticket is smaller than installation.
Tile floor installation
Kitchens, baths and entries, with prep that a floor-only crew cannot always do. Keep it on if you have a tile setter on staff; tile callers ask early whether you also handle the subfloor and the shower, and the answer decides whether the lead is worth anything.
Carpet installation
Bedrooms, stairs and basements. Keep it on if you stock carpet or install it for your showroom; a carpet caller usually wants the carpet, the pad and the installation from one company, which suits a store with its own crews.
Switch off, or check first
Carpet and floor cleaning, unless you run a cleaning crew
A different trade with its own trucks and equipment. Homeowners searching to clean a carpet are not shopping for a new one, and every one of those calls is charged at the same price as a whole-house install enquiry.
Epoxy and garage floor coatings, if you sub them out
Coatings are a separate specialty with their own crews and products. A lead you hand to a coatings contractor costs you full price and earns, at best, a favor.
Subfloor repair after water damage, unless you do restoration work
These callers often need drying, mold checks and an insurance adjuster before anyone can lay a floor. If your crew starts only once the subfloor is dry and approved, the call arrives weeks too early.
Commercial flooring, if your crews are set up for homes
Office and retail floors come with bid packages, night work and general contractors. A per-lead listing charges you to discover that on each call.
Bad leads
What a bad LSA lead looks like for flooring contractors
A homeowner who bought flooring elsewhere and wants a labor-only price, today, by the square foot.
Valid to Google. Decide your policy before the season: if you do not install customer-supplied material, say so on the call and record the reason. If most of your LSA leads end this way, narrow the vinyl and laminate job types or tighten the service area to where your showroom customers live.
A caller who wants a price over the phone and will not book a measure.
A flooring price depends on square footage, subfloor condition, transitions and stairs, so a phone quote is a guess. Record it as a lead that did not book a measure, with the reason, so you can see whether the problem is your intake script or the job type that brings these callers.
A sales rep for a flooring distributor, a rug wholesaler or a lead seller calling the listing.
Rate it as low quality in the LSA inbox and move on. Google can credit low-quality leads automatically after review.
A past customer calling about a squeak, a lifted plank or a warranty question.
Google does not charge again for contact from the same number within 15 days, but warranty calls usually come months after the install, so each one can be a new charged lead. Print the store or warranty number on the invoice and the care sheet you leave behind.
Ranking
What moves your LSA position as one of the flooring contractors in the auction
- 01
Reviews
Rating and number of reviews count toward profile quality. Ask on the day the last transition strip goes down and the furniture is back, when the homeowner is standing on the new floor, not after the invoice email.
- 02
Photos
Google counts high-quality images in profile quality. Finished rooms from your own installs, with the plank, the pattern and the stair nosing visible, fit that better than manufacturer catalog shots that every other dealer also uses.
- 03
Responsiveness during showroom hours
Missed calls can hurt your ranking. Flooring stores often route calls to whoever is on the floor with a customer; if the phone rings out while a salesperson is pulling samples, the listing pays for it. Set LSA hours to the hours someone answers, not the hours the showroom is open.
- 04
Message and booking leads
Homeowners planning a floor often reach out in the evening, after measuring a room themselves. Message leads help only if someone replies the next morning with a measure time; an unanswered message is a lead you paid for and lost.
- 05
Bid and budget
Google recommends Maximize Leads. Size the budget to the measures your estimators can run in a week, because a flooring lead that waits too long for a measure usually ends at the big-box store's free measure instead.

How we work
Getting LSA leads into Estimate Rocket, Jobber or Housecall Pro, plus the store's point-of-sale system for counter sales
- 1
What to record
A lead source of Google LSA on the customer when the measure is booked, the caller's phone number on the record, and the same number looked up when a showroom sale is rung up.
- 2
How to match
Match each charged LSA lead to a customer by phone number and call time, using the lead list from the LSA inbox or the Google Ads API. Then follow it through the stages flooring already uses: measure booked, estimate sent, estimate signed, installed. Estimate Rocket signatures happen in its customer portal and financing applications through Synchrony, Wells Fargo, Hearth or Wisetack happen on the lender's page, so the signed estimate and the funded job have to be recorded on the customer record in your system, not looked for in any ad report.
- 3
Lead feedback
Rate unusable leads in the LSA inbox. Keep the outcome and the reason on the customer record too (install-only, no measure, out of area, cleaning request), because that reason list tells you which job types to switch off.
- 4
Monthly check
Monthly, judged over a full sales cycle: compare LSA leads from the last two or three months with the estimates they produced, by job type, and calculate cost per signed install and average job value. Add counter sales that match an LSA caller's number as their own row, so showroom-led stores see what the listing really brings.
No accuracy guarantee here: we report the share of LSA leads for flooring contractors matched to jobs, and the share we could not match.
Channel split
LSA, Search ads and the Business Profile for flooring contractors
Flooring is planned work. Very few homeowners need a new floor today, so the urgency that makes LSA strong for repair trades is mostly missing; what LSA gives a flooring company is a trusted listing at the top of the page for people ready to book a measure. Search ads do something LSA cannot: they send the shopper comparing hardwood with vinyl plank to a page about that floor, a financing offer or a showroom visit. A store also gets walk-ins from its Business Profile that no ad report sees. Brand searches overlap most: a homeowner who saw your truck or your showroom sign, searched your name and called through LSA cost a lead fee for a customer who was already on the way.
- Local Services Ads
- Measure requests for the floors you install, inside the area your estimators drive to, judged on signed estimates.
- Search ads
- Floor-type and financing searches with their own landing pages, plus showroom visits, with signed jobs imported as offline conversions where a click ID was captured.
- Business Profile
- Directions, showroom hours, photos and reviews. Track its calls and direction requests separately, and match counter sales to it where you can.
- Angi, Networx and other marketplaces
- Only where your own system shows signed installs at a cost you accept. A marketplace request can go to several flooring companies at once.
Google Business Profile
The Business Profile side for flooring contractors
- Primary category
- Flooring contractor
- Secondary
- Flooring store
- Suspension risk
- Moderate, higher for hybrid store and installer setups. Flooring businesses often run a showroom and an installation company from one address, or a warehouse customers never visit. A second profile for the installation arm at the same address, a warehouse listed as a store with hours nobody staffs, or a name padded with 'Hardwood LVP Flooring Installation' are the patterns Google's guidelines rule out.
- Address
- A showroom with signage and staffed hours shows its address and can use Flooring store as primary if retail is most of the business. An installer working from home or a warehouse should hide the address and list the service area by city or ZIP code.
Honest fit check
When LSA is not worth it for flooring contractors
- Your estimators cannot measure within a few days of the call. A flooring shopper with three appointments booked will sign with whoever measures first, and you paid for the lead either way.
- Your margin is in material and you will not install customer-supplied flooring, but your area is full of big-box buyers. Expect a large share of install-only calls and price the listing against that.
- Most of your work is commercial or new construction through builders. LSA callers are homeowners choosing a floor for their own house.
FAQ
Questions flooring contractors ask about Local Services Ads
Is Local Services Ads worth it for a flooring company?
It is worth it when the leads produce signed installs at a cost you would pay again, measured over a full sales cycle in your own system. Judged on cost per lead, flooring LSA looks fine and tells you nothing, because the expensive part is the measure that never signs.
How do I check this myself in ten minutes?
Export last month's charged leads from the LSA inbox and search ten of the phone numbers in Estimate Rocket, Jobber or Housecall Pro. Note how many booked a measure, how many signed, and how many were install-only, cleaning or price-only calls. Then compare the job types switched on in your profile with the floors you actually install.
Can I get credit for install-only or carpet cleaning calls?
Not for job type. Google no longer credits leads for job types or areas you do not service, so switch off the job types you refer and decide your install-only policy before the calls arrive. Genuinely low-quality leads, such as sales calls and spam, can be credited automatically; rate them in the inbox.
What does Google check before a flooring company can run LSA?
Owner and business background checks, a state-level business or owner license where local law requires one, general liability insurance and business registration checks, several of them only for selected businesses. Flooring is not an urgent category, so installers are not screened individually. Approved advertisers get the Google Verified badge; the old money-back guarantee has been discontinued.
How do I count showroom sales that started with an LSA call?
Look up the caller's phone number when the sale is rung up or quoted, and set the lead source to Google LSA when it matches. It is a match by phone number and date, not a click-based import, so we report the matched share of sales rather than promise an accuracy figure for LSA.
