Google Ads is counting every WhatConverts call, hang-ups and all. It should only learn from the leads you'd quote.
WhatConverts already ties your calls, forms and chats to the ad click behind them. The trouble is what it sends back: on the New Lead Received trigger, every hang-up, wrong number and existing customer reaches Google Ads as a conversion, and if a form tag or an imported GA4 event counts the same lead, Google records it twice. We set each connection so only quotable leads, carrying their real value, reach Google, Meta and Microsoft Ads once.

WhatConverts · what breaks
Where a WhatConverts setup costs you money
- 01
Google Ads is counting hang-ups and wrong numbers
On the New Lead Received trigger, the Google Ads connection sends every new lead from your ads, so an eight-second hang-up counts the same as a paver patio estimate request. Smart Bidding then goes looking for more callers, not more buyers.
- 02
The same lead shows up twice in Google Ads
WhatConverts sends a click conversion while a Google Ads tag on the form, or a GA4 key event imported into Google Ads, records the same submission. With both set as primary, cost per lead looks better than it is and bidding trusts the inflated count.
- 03
Leads never get marked, so the good ones never reach the ads
Quotable and value triggers fire only after someone marks the lead, in the Lead Manager or through an automation. At a busy estate planning practice or pergola contractor that step slips, so Google hears about a thin, lopsided slice of your real leads.
- 04
GoHighLevel and Typeform leads never show up
A form framed in from another domain is invisible to the WhatConverts script unless linking code sits on both the form's page and yours. Those submissions never become leads, so the campaign that paid for them gets no credit anywhere.
WhatConverts · the fix
What changes after the fix
Bidding trained on leads you'd actually quote
Each ad platform hears about a lead once it's quotable, so spend drifts toward the searches that produce estimate requests and consultations.
One conversion per lead, per platform
WhatConverts or the site tag owns each conversion action, never both, and Meta stops seeing one inquiry as two events.
Closed jobs flowing back with real dollars
Sales values from your CRM land on the WhatConverts lead and travel with the conversion, so value-based bidding can tell a seawall build from a small dock repair.
WhatConverts · architecture
What WhatConverts actually lets you hook into
Everything below comes from WhatConverts' own help center. Where it's silent, we test on your account instead of assuming.
- 1
Google Ads connection
One-way. Click conversions on the GCLID, call-asset calls by timestamp, and Enhanced Conversions from hashed phone or email when there's no click ID.
- 2
Facebook Ads connection
A custom event you name, a minimum call length, and optional advanced matching that posts hashed email and phone to Meta's Conversions API.
- 3
Bing Ads connection
Offline conversions to Microsoft Advertising, which WhatConverts says can take up to 72 hours to appear. Calls from Microsoft call extensions are recorded but not sent back.
- 4
GA4 by Measurement ID and API secret
Each lead type posted as an event with lead ID and value. Fine for reporting; a double count if imported into Google Ads.
- 5
Webhooks, API and Zapier
Webhooks fire on new and updated leads. Zapier and the API can set quotable status, quote value and sales value on an existing lead.
WhatConverts · diagnose
Where WhatConverts tracking breaks, in the order we check
We start inside Google Ads, because that's where a loose WhatConverts setup burns money fastest.
- 01
Count the primary conversion actions one test lead triggers
WhatConverts, a site tag and a GA4 import are the usual three.
- 02
Read the trigger on each connection
New Lead Received on a primary Google Ads action is the first thing we change. If Lead Intelligence rules are on, the trigger has to say so, or WhatConverts warns one lead can reach several conversion actions.
- 03
Check what share of last month's leads were marked
If most sit unmarked, a quotable trigger starves bidding instead of sharpening it.
- 04
Confirm paid leads carry the GCLID
Auto-tagging on, a pool big enough for paid traffic, and no second call tracker swapping the number.
- 05
Look for a Pixel Lead event beside WhatConverts' custom event
Different event names don't deduplicate, so one inquiry lands in Events Manager twice until we pick a single event to optimize on.

Source of truth
WhatConverts Lead Manager: leads by date with quotable status, quote and sales values, and the Google Ads Conversion column
- A test call from a GCLID-tagged visit shows the click ID on the WhatConverts lead.
- That lead reads Pending, then Click Conversion once Google's six-hour wait has passed.
- Exactly one conversion per lead in Google Ads, Meta Events Manager and Microsoft Ads.
- A lead marked not quotable sends nothing anywhere.
- A sales value entered in the CRM appears on the lead and in the conversion value.
- Reconciled across a closed month, then again 30 days later.

WhatConverts · when not to buy
When WhatConverts doesn't need us
Plenty of WhatConverts accounts need a settings change, not a project.
- If your Google Ads connection already fires on quotable leads, nothing else reports the same lead, and the counts match your Lead Manager, leave it alone.
- If you only get a few leads a month, bidding has too little to learn from. Read the Lead Manager and adjust bids by hand.
- If nobody on the team will mark leads, fix that habit first. Pointing a quotable trigger at an empty field just switches conversions off.
- If you're an agency already running WhatConverts across clients and only want a second opinion on triggers, one call covers it.
WhatConverts · what we deliver
What we track in WhatConverts, from first call to sold job
Tracked visit
Visitor gets a pool number, with the GCLID and UTMs held against the session by the WhatConverts script.
Call, form or chat received
Logged as a lead and sent to GA4 as phone_call, web_form or chat for reporting, not used as the bidding signal.
Lead marked quotable
The primary conversion in Google Ads, Meta and Microsoft Ads, with short calls, spam and duplicates held back.
Quote value added
A secondary conversion carrying the estimate amount, so it informs reporting without counting the lead a second time.
Job sold
Sales value written back from your CRM through Zapier or the WhatConverts API, then sent as the revenue conversion.
Excluded everywhere
Existing customers, vendors, solicitors and repeat callers marked not quotable and kept out of every ad platform.
Written guarantee
95%+ tracking accuracy
Measured against WhatConverts Lead Manager: leads by date with quotable status, quote and sales values, and the Google Ads Conversion column. Miss it and we keep working at no cost.

FAQ
WhatConverts questions, answered
Yes, using the GCLID, call timestamps or hashed contact details. What it sends depends on the trigger you pick, and that's where most setups go wrong.
Usually two sources report one lead: WhatConverts plus a Google Ads tag on the form, or a GA4 key event imported into Google Ads. Keep one primary action per lead and set the rest to secondary, which Google reports but doesn't bid on.
Its advanced matching option sends hashed email and phone to Meta's Conversions API without needing the fbclid. We check match quality in Events Manager once it's on.
Only quotable leads, or leads with a quote value, as the primary conversion, as long as your team marks them reliably. Sending every lead teaches bidding to find more spam and hang-ups.
Yes. WhatConverts documents Zapier actions and an API that update quotable status, quote value and sales value on an existing lead.
