Get your Unbounce tracking to 95%+ accuracy guaranteed in writing.
Unbounce's Smart Traffic and A/B testing rely entirely on conversion data. When that data is incomplete (browser-only, no CAPI, no offline imports), Smart Traffic optimizes against a partial sample and your variants get crowned wrong. We rebuild Unbounce tracking server-side with deduped CAPI on every form, plus CRM offline imports, so Smart Traffic and Meta both finally have the data they need.

Unbounce · what breaks
Unbounce-specific tracking issues
- 01
Smart Traffic optimizes on incomplete data
Variants get picked on partial conversion sample → wrong winner
- 02
iOS form submits lost
Same browser-only problem as every LP tool
- 03
Convertables popups misfire
Sticky bars, popups, exit-intent — modal events often double-fire or miss
- 04
No CRM offline by default
Closed-won data never feeds back to Meta/Google

Unbounce · architecture
How a Unbounce order should reach the ad platforms
Unbounce is built for testing variants, which makes the tracking question sharper than usual: a variant that wins on form fills can easily lose on qualified leads.
- 1
Click identifiers captured at first touch
Click IDs are captured on the landing page at landing and written into hidden form fields, so the variant that produced a lead is still known when the lead is qualified weeks later.
- 2
The browser sends the fast, fragile copy
Unbounce's form confirmation event fires in the page. The variant identifier should be captured alongside it, or A/B results cannot be evaluated on outcome quality.
- 3
The order itself is the source of truth
The CRM record is the truth. Unbounce's own conversion count measures form submissions, which is a different question.
- 4
A server container sends the authoritative event
The CRM webhook posts qualified leads to a GTM server container on your own subdomain, carrying both the click IDs and the variant identifier.
- 5
Customer identity raises match quality
Submitted email and phone are hashed server-side before leaving.
Unbounce · events
The event set we build on Unbounce, and where each one comes from
Carrying the variant identifier through to the outcome is the piece that makes Unbounce testing worth doing at all.
| Event | Fires when, on Unbounce | Key parameters | Sent from |
|---|---|---|---|
| generate_lead | Unbounce's form confirmation event fires, with the variant recorded | hashed email/phone, click IDs, event_id | Server preferred |
| sign_up | The CRM contact is created | hashed email, event_id | Server preferred |
| purchase | The lead is qualified, or the deal closes | order_id, value, currency, items[], hashed email/phone/name/address, event_id | Server authoritative |
Unbounce · normal or broken
Testing-specific pitfalls — Unbounce
The risk on Unbounce is optimizing a test toward the wrong outcome, which is worse than not testing.
Normal, not a fault
Variants converting differently at the form stage
That is the test. Whether the difference survives to qualified leads is the real question.
Unbounce's conversion count differing from the CRM
Unbounce counts submissions; the CRM counts contacts, after deduplication.
Ad platforms report more conversions than you have orders
Meta credits a 7-day click and 1-day view; Google credits on click date. Two platforms can each claim the same sale. Compare each one to your order records separately and never add them together.
Recent days always look worse than they finish
Conversions are credited back to the date of the click, so yesterday's return on ad spend is understated and will keep improving for several days. This is attribution working, not data arriving late.
Actually broken
The variant identifier not carried into the CRM
You can see which variant gets more fills and never which gets better leads. Tests then optimize toward volume regardless of quality.
Conversion counted on the confirmation page view
Direct visits counted as leads.
Click IDs never captured
No campaign attribution on any outcome.
Unbounce · prove
How we prove the Unbounce build is correct
The tag firing proves the tag fires. These prove the numbers are right.
Source of truth
Your CRM's lead records
- The variant identifier confirmed present on CRM records.
- The lead event confirmed firing on form confirmation, not a page view.
- Qualified-lead outcomes reportable per variant, which is the point of the exercise.
- Purchase count within a few percent of your crm's lead records for a fully closed week, matched on order ID rather than on totals.
- No order ID appearing twice in any platform's event log.
- Deduplication confirmed at every destination that supports it.
- Test and staff orders excluded, with the exclusion confirmed active rather than merely configured.
- The same reconciliation repeated 30 days later, because a setup that works once and then drifts is the harder failure to catch.

Unbounce · when not to buy
When a Unbounce rebuild is not what you need
We would rather say this now than three weeks into an engagement.
- You are not running variant tests. Then a simpler landing page setup will do.
- You have no CRM to carry outcomes.
- Traffic is too low for a test to reach significance anyway.
